Motorhome Registration in RI

I decided to go today and attempt to register the Crown as a motorhome at the local DMV.

I had the title, which said BUS, the previous owners reg, which was a commercial reg from Oregon that said BUS and had a listed weight of 47,500lbs, and a bill of sale.

I filled out the TR-1 registration paperwork, the sales tax form, and handed them over to the clerk saying I wanted to register my Crown Coach as a motorhome. He could't have cared less!! Asked me seating capacity, I said 8, asked me weight, I said 25,000lbs, and I walked out with new plates and a motorhome registration not 15 minutes after I walked in!

I don't know if its always that easy in RI, but I had no problems, and could't believe it!!

A rare incident when a bureaucrat's lazy & lackadaisical attitude is actually a good thing!

Unfortunately not rare at all at DMV. The problem now arises of how you will insure your motorhome that isn't a motorhome?

Just saying that typically functionaries' sloth benefits only themselves, so simplification of the title change is a good thing.

Naturally, it is entirely contingent on the owner to complete at least the most minor mods in order to make it palatable to the carrier as a MH. Proceed at your own risk, otherwise...

Did you just do this?? I'm way closer to RI than VT. Have you found insurance for your bus?

Rhode Island..

Do you mind me asking what company you used to insure it? We were using Allstate, but they decided after several months that our vehicle was "commercial" and now won't cover it. AAA says they will cover it as a commercial vehicle. It has seating for, 2 beds, a toilet and a sink. It's not commercial. Trying to figure out if the problem is that the title hasn't been converted to RV.
