One more vote for GMAC!

I know Smitty hates em because they won't give full coverage for a self-converted bus, for liability-only they're great!
15min on the phone, $279 later, and my cards are faxed to me so I can go down to the DMV today!

As for why they won't give full coverage to self-conversions, to me it's pretty simple- how do you ever put a price on it?
They have a lot of really cool RV-specific stuff like a full-purchase-price refund towards the purchase of a new RV if you drive your old one off a cliff within the first 5 years. There's just too much opportunity there for someone to drive their "self-converted good-as-a-brand-new-$300k-RV steaming wooden crapheap off a cliff, and then try to get the 300k to go buy a new RV. I don't blame them at all

Re: One more vote for GMAC!

I didn't see anything in the post about not disclosing the type of vehicle. I just bought a policy with GMAC, liability-only, and specifically told the agent it was a former school bus that I converted myself (when I said it was a bus conversion, she asked me if it was a city bus or school bus, and if I had it professionally converted). I'm paying slightly more than that, but GMAC is known here for being the only company that consistently insures self-converted skoolies.
