If that was progressive, anyone reading should note- Progressive are no longer insuring "converted" buses. If its a bus, its fine. If they get wind that the title says "hotorhome" they will cancel.
Good Sam aka National would be my next try.
Good luck in your search for insurance, the bane of bus ownership in my experience.

I think I posted this question in another thread, but if you keep your bus titled as a bus, don't you need a CDL to drive it?
Sorry I forgot to add, this is in FL. I have seen references to a Non CDL Class B license in Texas, but I don't think FL has an equivalent.

I have a 1984 Chevy short bus with a Wayne body. Although short it has rear tandem wheels. My title says cut/van a friend of mine that owned an insurance company told me that kept them from insuring it as a van. I tried many insurors and got
Progressive Commercial, it was about 67 dollars a month, liability only. I went to Nationwide online and acquired the same amount of insurance for less than 20 dollars a month and it is not commercial.
My bus is less than the required weight to need a CDL according to the DMV in the county that I live in. I am in western TN. After getting resistered, licensed and getting my title back I then took my title and 13 dollars and DMV changed it to Motor Home with no pictures or inspections.

Yup. Progressive sent a cancellation notice. I paid about 260 for the year. I wonder if they will let me insure it your way.

Do you have a picture of your bus. In California, that 3rd axle makes it a commercial vehicle it weighs over 6000 pounds. Not GVW but weight unless it is titled as a motorhome.
See page 3 under Commercial class B license.

Am I using the wrong terminology? Maybe I should have said dual wheels.

Hi all, just a quick update since this thread is still alive. I did go thru an insurance broker that I used in the past when I bought my Ducati diavel, no one wanted to insure the bike because they had no clue what it was, but this particular broker went the extra mile for me then and now with the progressive commercial. It is twice as much, but oh well, what can we do.
I was surprised at how many insurance companies just blew me off when I told them what I was doing. Gmac will insure it when it's done. RV America hung up on me after saying they wouldn't have any underwriters for that. A few companies advertised school bus conversion insurance and when called said they don't....even though it was on their site.

I could have insured that as a regular private van.
