yes i am. How far are you from the worlds largest truck stop? The driver of the other bus likes to stop there to buy cigarettes...apparently they are far cheaper than michigan cig's.

since i'm caravaning with 2 other vehicles so it isn't practicle to head up to ames this time around.

next year i'm gonna try to talk phillbus into bringing his skoolie too.

...I dont think I would be able to meet you at that stop but if you are coming thru Des Moines maybe Steve could come down and he and I could meet up with you for a group shot or something [I dont like Yagermeister though ].

I would estimate that we'll drive through des moines before midnite on friday nite if all goes as planned.

perhaps i'll give steve a call when i get a few hours away and see. If we plan it right our caravan can probably make des moines a fuel stop. We don't really ever stop driving except for fuel.

my bus has at least 3 competent drivers this year, so it makes driving 48 hours straight relatively easy.

Yeah, I could make it down there, maybe meet up with abdabbs ahead of time so that I will be down there so that you aren't waiting on us. Ill talk to adamb and see he wants to bring his bus again too. Anyone else who is in the are should stop by too.

sorry, didn't get the chance to stop and visit in iowa.

Just got home this morning (wednessday) about 430 am. The was a bit of crazyness on the journey, i'll post more details about it later. All total is was over 5K miles roundtrip.

The engineers at International deserve a big kudos!

I was sleeping on the way home, and the driver of the bus woke me up to tell me that the alternator stopped alternating. I told him to keep driving and we'll worry about it later. It was daytime, and we didn't really need much 12 volt current at the time.

about 45 minutes later, he stopped to let another guy drive for a while. I awoke and stepped outside the bus a few seconds behind another passenger to empty my bladder along the rode. I took one look at the bumper and thought the other passenger urinated all over the bumper of the bus, which didn'tmake me too happy....after about 3 seconds i realized that it was not human waste, but was in fact engine coolant.

hmmmmm!

It then occurred to me the reason the alternator stopped making current is that the belts had come off. No belts = no water pump. So for about 45 minutes the bus drove highway speeds without a belt turning the water pump, I figured that some pretty serious engine damage probably occurred. As it turns out, everything was just fine after we filled her up with coolant.

Why didnt' my engine suffer total thermo nuclear meltdown??? Those engineers at international mounted the fan directly to the water pump. The only thing i can figure is that at highway speeds there is enough wind to allow the fan to work as a propeller and spin the water pump at a pretty decent speed.

how cool is that?

there are so many crazy art projects like this one going on at the same time out at burningman that it's impossible to see everything! This looks like it was at least their 2nd year...i'll have to make it a point to look for them in 07

better not miss a dance step!
