City ordinances

Hi I'm new to the skoolie community. My husband and I are looking at starting a conversion and park it in our family's yard until we can save enough to buy a piece of land. I know people have have difficulties with zoning laws and city ordinances. Where should I look for specifics for the city? What should I be looking for? I'm new to all this and everything I've seen just tells people to look it up but I'm not 100% sure what to look for. And I'm nervous about calling up the city because I feel like I that'd be a red flag for them. Any help is appreciated thank you!

Try doing a search with ordinance RV your city and state. I just did that for my home and got a few hits. At least it's a place to start.
Why not call, you don't have to tell them who you are?

I found the city ordinance and searched RV but I'm not sure what to look for as far as wording and since I have no experience with it I was hoping someone knew specific phrases to look for
