Eclipse Skoolie style

So who's driving their Skoolie to see the eclipse on Aug 21? I'll be driving from Winnemucca NV to near John Day OR. Probably up, spend the night and back but maybe an extra day. Traffic on my route shouldn't be bad; some of you might remember the traffic as much as the eclipse! Good Viewing!!

Sounds like a great trip! I am doing an eclipse party at my place so no traveling in my bus but it will be my office for all the guests that are coming to stay the weekend. If anybody wants a nice place to park in southeast Idaho to view the eclipse, give me a hollar!

The whole reason I bought my bus back in April was to see the eclipse from Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Leaving Monday!

Saint Clair Missouri about an hour south of St. Louis is where me and mine are going! In the path of totality.
It's a festival called Darkening of the Sun. It takes place on Cherokee Nation land. A HUGE Native American showing with ceremonies and live music!
It's going to be incredible.

i'm about an hour south of the totality band, so i'm planning on packing up saturday night and heading north to find a free paring spot for a day or 2. i made reservations at a campground but they are charging $200/night in Alliance, NE. thats not even hookups, just a dry parking spot.

i called the highway patrol this morning to see how ong i can be on the side of the road before its an issue. they didnt care, they think they will be busy with crazys. i've heard estimates of 500,000 people showing up in these little towns with no facilities. its gonna be fun.

My bus isn't ready for travel yet. I will be tent camping at the airport in Madras Or, one mile off the centerline of the path of totality. Hope to see some skoolies there. Happy viewing to all!

How did everyone's eclipse party go? I was kind of expecting one skoolie at my place but they found a different place. Here is a link to a video my friend shot of my eclipse party. The eclipse was amazing, was quite surprised at how dark and cold it got. My brother lives in Louisiana, not far from the path of the 2024 eclipse, may have to do a road trip!

You got some cool pics! The total eclipse was an amazing sight. My brother lives in Bossier City, La. not far from the 2024 eclipse that goes up through east Texas, maybe I can be retired by then and catch that one. Want to be a guest this time and not a host, too many fun people that I didnt have time to visit with. Here is another video that Brandon from Canada shot, I like the sunflower border. I planted a bunch of sweet corn and was planning on using it for the Sunday evening potato bar dinner we did for our guests but I was so busy doing other things this summer that the weeds got the best of me. Dont know where the sunflowers came from but they looked really cool there on the side of the field, almost looked like I did it on purpose.

The Mud Lake area looks nice. I haven't ventured west of I-15 in that area; we'll have to get out and explore that some time.

Here in Salt Lake City all summer long we've been seeing news reports about the massive influx of people expected to appear in south eastern Idaho. I didn't want any part of that so I took my family to find a place in the Payette forest on the western edge of Idaho instead. I had been so stressed about getting there early to ensure we'd be able to find a place to camp and so on..

It turned out that arriving Saturday afternoon we found in a nice spot right on the side of Mann Creek where we couldn't even hear the next campers. Traffic on the road was pretty light all weekend. Monday morning we drove half an hour from our camp site up to Sturgill Peak where there's a fire lookout station at almost 7600 feet elevation and we could see the mountains and valleys surrounding for 30-50 miles in every direction. It was amazing! Crowds were not a problem: my extended family of 9 were half of the people there.

Sadly, it didn't work out to take the bus. I had worked on it every free moment and a lot of others too all summer long trying to wrap up the roof raise and re-skin projects to at least have it 99% enclosed for this trip. We actually did depart in the bus but after three incidents in which the bus brought itself to a full stop on the freeway less than 15 miles from home, we decided to can it and went home to transfer everything into the van and cargo trailer.
