It's technically illegal to travel across state lines with a goat unless it has a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. We got one when we left but didn't keep it updated. It's also against the rules to have goats at National and States parks without a $30 permit each visit, and sometimes altogether not allowed. But we played the "ask forgiveness, not permission" game (at the risk of anything from a "you can't be here" to a hefty fine) and not one person even mentioned it. We weren't very covert about it either.

Why bother with rules? He can declare it a service goat. When he crosses into California, he can threaten the people at the Ag checkpoint with calling the police. I see people bring their animals in grocery stores, Starbucks, restaurants. When I complain that I don't want dog ass in my shopping cart, the manager says that corporate tells him not to say anything. Way to go. Work the system.

Yes that's another issue. A goat in a fence near a road is very soon a goat on a road.

I'm located in Statesville, north of Charlotte, but I lived in Wilmington for six years during and after college at UNCW so I'm familiar with Swansboro!
