Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

Total Est. Time: 10 hours, 52 minutes

Total Est. Distance: 665.47 miles

That is getting a little better.

I plan on going to Country Fest in Cadott, WI in June and would be more than happy to meet up with any other skoolie.net members that might enjoy a 4 door outdoor country music party.

480 mi for me; but I guess at least I couldn't get lost its a straight shot east on I-80. 580 mi if it were in Oklahoma City.

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

I like Michigan a little more too. It is roughly 560 for me going most direct route. But that won't happen. OK was roughly 775 and doesn't include any driving to different points.
On to the showers now, are they wheelchair accessible? If not the only thing I'd be able to get by with would be a spot to refill my water tank and the freedom to dump shower water to the ground if I have to. Myself I can use the showers but my friend that would be coming with has a much harder time.

Advantage with MI is I could take the bus on a boat ride http://www.ssbadger.com which I want to do anyways and then I can take the scenic route north to the mackinaw bridge and cut over towards Duluth to go home.

To me the thing that makes sense be a more of a regional thing instead of a centrally located event. Fuel cost kill us all let alone the time it takes to get to a place.

I just looked at it and by taking the boat across it is 515 miles one way to Sturgis MI. Of coarse it would be more than $245 for two of us to ride across with a bus.

If you're taking the northern route home I'd enjoy convoying with you. I live about 60 miles north of Duluth now. Buses going for boat rides...I like the idea.

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

Hey all! This is Train- trains wife. He wanted me to get on here and answer questions about Cade Lake Campground. So far the only question I see is about the showers. We do have wheelchair accessible showers! We also have 4 handicapped sites that have a cement pad, wheelchair accessible picnic tables and the taller fire rings. We do not have water at every site but we do have water spigots that you can fill your tanks at and a dump station.

We open the first weekend in May and close the second weekend in Oct. I haven't made up the activities schedule for next year yet... if you guys decide to do this at the park I can plan the whole weekend around the event. You'll just have to let me know before Feb when I post the 2008 Schedule.

Here are a few photos we took this last season just for your viewing pleasure...

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

I would probably duck out of a Michigan for it is all the way across the country. Oklahoma is a more central location. Going that far north is just to much for me.

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

Okay, so we have had a few suggestions. Oklahoma, Missouri, Michigan etc. How are we going to decide this? We should discuss it for another month or two and then take a poll or something. We should at least have the location and a time frame nailed down by Christmas. A lot of people are going to need some advance notice so they can plan ahead and get time off work, save money and what not. What do you guys think?

I like the OK one a bit better..KS has a lot of nice lakes as well....if I could remember which one my dad takes care of during the summer I'd suggest it.

I second that. Otherwise my vote would be for Michigan.
A more regional thing might be best. And so what if you don't get to see other members work of art. One possibility would be to have them on different weekends so someone in between could attend both if they choose to. As for a date my opinion is the second or third weekend in june would be most ideal. And what has been said in the past is right for me that I often need 6 months to request time off before someone else scarfs up dates before me.

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

Hi again, TT's wife again... Just one more suggestion. How about Brown County State Park south of Nashville, Indiana? That is centrally located for the Eastern US and not far off of I-65. They have LOTS of sights and activities in the park as well as touristy stuff in Nashville. Just a thought.

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

I think I still like MI better. That is a little bit farther than I will go with a bus that doesn't do too good with mpg. That is about 890 miles just to nashville fpr me.

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

are there enough skoolies in the northeast to do one here? maybe if i drag the OL to one with a few well done skoolies, I might sell her on the idea of actually getting one of these things.

If we have two gatherings, we should just have them both in Oklahoma City to keep things simple!

Re: Lets start planning a gathering for 2008!

This is why I suggested two locations, because ewiitby! In case you don't know what that means, I'll tell you. EVERYONE WANTS IT IN THEIR BACK YARD! It's too hard for people to travel across the country for several days each way in a bus that gets 5-10 mpg. I would like one location where we can all see everyone's bus, but I don't think it's feasible. I think finding two locations that are central to to each half of the country would be the best for everybody. I already know that I have to travel because I'm coming from PROK (People's Republik of Kalifornia). I just don't want to drive 2000 miles. My 1 1/2 cents.
