Overnight Parking & RV RV Unfriendly lists

Found this thru another site

List of States that Allow Overnight Parking in their Rest Areas. ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION even if they are listed as a "no" state. Sometimes it is just a liability thing. Other times it's because they do not have security at the Rest Areas... like here in NM. But lots of folks stay at the rest area north of us.

RV Unfriendly Areas List. These are places that do not allow overnight parking for various reasons. We try not to stop at them because it is often because a local campground owner gets upset because the sees too many RV parking overnight in parking lots and thinks they should be parking overnight in his campground. So we take our $$ elsewhere and the whole town suffers... until they change the laws. We don't wallydock in parking lots because we are cheap (we are but that's not the only reason). We have found that parking lots tend to make it easy for us to get into/out of and back on the road with little fuss. Also they tend to be surrounded by restaurants within walking distance which means we don't have to unhook our towed. Too many greedy campground owners don't think of that.

This is the site that I use. I like it because it covers so many places. I can search via a map or list And I can pick out certain stores. I like to try to park near a Wal-Mart/Cracker Barrel or a Sam's Club because when we wallydock (park overnight in a parking lot) we tend to pull off the road for supper and also eat breakfast too. We like Cracker Barrel. Our first choice of places to wallydock at is Sam's Clubs. We like their pizzas and I can either get one to cook myself or get one at their deli already cooked. We also love their already cooked rotisserie chickens and the BBQ ribs. As business members ($35/yr... cheaper than a regular membership.. just make up a "business" name) we get into Sam's early and they often have free coffee and danishes for the members which we partake of on our way out from thanking the store for letting us stay overnight. We also use the Allstays site to find truck stops and rest areas. Just remember to ask permission anywhere you want to wallydock! Often they have a specific spot they want you to park in.

iPhone Apps .. just another resource ..

AllStays has some good looking Apps for your iPhone .. though they are Paid Apps ..

In case anyone else is using an iPhone .. one for Wallydocking .. one for Rest Areas .. one for Truck Stops .. although their "main" app "Camp&RV" has pretty much everything from the other apps rolled into one, it's more money though ($5.99 as of this writing) ..

.. just another source to look into .. kept up to date by the users/travelers ..
