Route to Burning Man
Ok so I'm taking Pablito (my skoolie) to Burning Man. I will be driving from Alabama to Nevada.
I'm looking for the best route west. My number one concern is to go over the least amount of mountains.... sooo....
My choices that I see so far are getting on Interstates 40, 70, or 80 for the ride west.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd go I-40 to US95N then NV 447N to Gerlach ... then follow the crowd
Either way, do not follow your GPS from Winnemucca. If you do that you will end up on Jungo Road, and you do not want to be there (Google it).

i-70 thru colorado is the stretch to avoid. steep grades and heavy traffic are no fun at all.
i-80 is an easy hill thru wyoming.
i-70 would be ok if you have any transmission except the 545. if you have the
545 then any other route is better.
if you do cross thru colorado, i like going thru rocky mountain national park. the park speed limit is slow enough to navigate the bus up and over the mountain without issue.

Good luck! If it is your first time, DO read up on line about it to make sure you have what you need - like well-fitting goggles! Test them BEFORE you get out there!

Once you get on the playa and park, you are not moving for a week.
Seal up everything. Tape the window seals, tape plastic sheet over all the inlets .... air, engine cover, everything. Leave the only thing exposed to the dust the sheet metal and the glass.
Create an air-lock inside the entry. Drape heavy plastic sheet that allows you to get in the door, close the door then open the sheeting to get in the bus.
Take home everything you brought in, and have a great time. You will be more comfortable than about 90% of those there but you'll still need a big clean-up when you get home.

Yep this is my first time. Thank you all for the great advice. I will have to work on the sealing of the bus and "airlock" system. My son has been a few times and has pitched in on the bus. We are having a painting party in three weeks with all of our friends and family. I retired over a year ago so I have nothing better to do than work on the bus and ride my motorcycle. Fun, Fun, Fun!

How was your first burn!?
2018 was my second burn. I wish I had a skoolie to make it easier on myself. So that is my plan this spring. Build my skoolie and go in comfort! Message me.

Even with all the sealing up of things...do not fail to clean every cubic millimeter, inside & out once you leave the Playa. Especially underneath. The dust there is insanely caustic and if left & combined with any moisture at all will eat damn near anything in very short order.

Ain't nuthin' quite like Playa dust. It is a superfine alkaine & silica powder. Eats skin as well as metal (Google "Playa Foot").
