Like Bansil, I am accustomed to the rear of any RV that I have hanging out in "space". Too many years of camping in Southern Appalachian public parks where the drop off the backside of the campsite ranges from 3 ft to 20 ft? With the popup, we would back into the campsite open it up, set up the "drop off" side and then spin the popup around and back the thing up to the edge of the campsite out over air. Then finish opening up. Loved that hard sided popup. Had more than one park ranger come to watch us break down. In the Class C, we would roll the RV back until the rear wheels would almost touch the back border of the site. My bus may be 40 ft, but it is currently sitting on a 27 ft long pad in a private RV park. As long as there are no obstacles behind the bus, it will fit. You may want to invest in a long measuring tape.

BTW, when I leave reviews for any park/campground, if it is skoolie friendly (I have been asking for quite some time) I say "This is a skoolie (school bus conversion) friendly park" in the review. If you know of any private parks that you have stayed at that ARE school bus conversion friendly, why don't you post reviews of the park (public and private). You don't have to have stayed there recently. But it will get it into print for others to read. RVparkreviews had a problem when I first used "skoolie" hence the "school bus conversion" in parentheses. I was contacted and they supposed to have added that to their spell check. To make things easier on you, you can simply do a general review in notepad and save on your computer, then you can flesh it out as needed by each campground.

BTW, some of my reviews disappeared when they redid their website. If you left reviews, you may want to check to see if any of yours got lost as well. I also just re-registered under a different name.

You have a wonderful positive approach to life. Why let the sour people ruin our day? They don’t have anything I envy. Personally, I don’t have enough days left to waste any on people with braces on their brains. It is much more fulfilling to visit with good folks who share their open minded approach and happiness. As Auntie Mame once said, “Life is a banquet and most poor bas___rds are starving to death.”

we just did a couple thousand miles.
we hate parking lots and normally do state and federal parks.
but during the winter most are closed.
sometimes we just stay there anyway in the day area lol.
so sometimes we stay in RV parks.
some are really nice and some are simply glorified parking lots.
we just stay for a day or two to rest up and take showers.
below are what we have come across lately.

OK TO STAY:
Ashland Creekside RV park OR.
Rocky Point Resort OR.
Lake of the woods OR.
KOA Klamath falls OR. ( no horse trailer conversions )
KOA Mount Shasta CA.
Sacramento river RV park Redding CA. ( good for a night or two only? )
flag city RV park Lodi CA. ( 50/50 chance ) winter jacuzzi, pool awesome!
Bear mountain RV park Bakersfield CA.

TURNED AWAY:
KOA gold hill OR.
KOA Bakersfield CA.

so your chances are still pretty good.
we like to freeform and just get in the bus and go and stop whenever we want with no reservations.
a advantage of having a short bus.

Enjoy and keep the dream alive!

“…. Of course, we avoid RV campgrounds that would accept us as members.”

You’re funny!

I don't go to "RV Parks." I love "campgrounds operated by the Army Corps of Engineers or state parks. They don't have their noses stuck up in the air.

When we talk about campgrounds that won’t allow skoolies, we should also mention if those are the same campgrounds that ‘forgot’ to make their camp facilities handicap accessible. After all, if they don’t want us, maybe we don’t want them right back. Fair is fair.

I must be alone in my definition of “discrimination”. That term feels more like an arrogant slap in the face of anything or anyone different, and done with the intention of hurting. Being “choosy” or being “particular” about who I will give my hard-earned money to will always mean “never give money to a jerk who has braces on their brains and a stick up their tailpipe.” But that’s just me. . .

That site is for Corps of Engineers, National Parks, National Forest and other federal lodging and tour reservations. I use it many times every year.

Get out there and enjoy!!!!

Yeah, those are great, and as a vet, I've got free or reduced pricing in most states to use those kinds of things. I've definitely taken advantage of it, especially right after getting out when I would head out some place and just get lost for days out there.

The off-season is even better, and I've stayed overnights without charge while traveling once, and very cheap every other time. They also almost always have dump/fill facilities and usually some nice restrooms and showers if you're feeling like a change from inside the bus.
