Skoolie road trips for other bus nuts

We know how cool our skoolies look. But what about showing off our skoolies and for any other skoolie fan who wants to learn about what it is like to ride in a skoolie. I would love to ride in a Carpenter Vistaramic Skoolie. One of them I would like to ride in was named "Buster". That bus is so dear to me due to that it resembles a similar bus I used to ride in. When I rode a Vistaramic Carpenter school bus, that was back in the days before the Internet and before the days of smaller affordable video cameras.

Come to one the of the skoolie meet ups. There is a skoolie swarm in Florida this February.

Skoolie palooza in arizona in January.

Tiny house festivals are another place to meet and see fellow skoolies.

Dang, Doe lake?
Feb?
IDK... that's NOT a good time of year to hang out in that area. "Rainbow" gathering going on which is basically a meth convention in the woods. The "gathering' is at buck lake but it encompasses the whole of that area for a few weeks.

You SURE that's where they're having it????
If so be ready for roadside shakedowns and roadblocks.

Yes I am sure, it is posted on the facebook page. My understanding is we are getting the whole lake/campground/lodge for skoolies only. So even if weird stuff is in the area we should be mostly isolated from it. So maybe picking up any hitchikers might be a bad idea...

There WILL be hitchhikers and ruffians about.
And since hunting season will be a month or two gone there WILL be dumped dogs all skinny and starving so anyone with a bleeding heart for animals bring some spare food.
Rough time of year for that event out there, IMO.
Wonder why they don't post anything here. I can't access the FB page without joining FB and I won't do that.

Thanks Ronnie.
Not on FB either, but I'm planning on being in the Homosassa area around that time so not too far away.
We'll have to see how things go on this...

I'm in the rehab hospital now but should be home by Sept. PM me if you get up this way...

I copied this from Facebook,

Skoolie swarm

THIS IS A PRELIMINARY POST DESIGNED TO SAVE THE DATE:

This is our annual get together for skoolies and those with the skoolie spirit. This is not a show for the general public to come and view our homes. There will be time for fellowship, getting to know each other, eating together and general relaxation.
Practice your offgrid skills before the event. There will be plenty of space for those with solar and those with generators. Located in the Ocala National Forest. There will be a registration form to follow soon that will need to emailed in. Cost per night per vehicle TBD but will not exceed $20 per night. Some volunteer positions available. MAIN POTLUCK WILL BE SATURDAY NIGHT

Doe lake, Feb 3 through 10. near Ocala Florida

Are we allowed to show up if we don't have our skoolie with us?

Also, did somebody say there would be meth?

Can't wait to see you and Dee again!

My folks just gave me their teardrop camper, so we'll even stay a night.

if you are interested in the Bus aspect, some of us are more bus collectors than skoolie builders and we have get togethers too.. busses converted and non converted usually show up.. as well as coaches and school busses..

we are doing one in Bangor wisconsin august 24-26. in september one is coming together in indiana.. there is also bus transportation day at the illinois railway museum coming up..

last year we did a northern kentucky get together which was all school busses from a brand new 2019 thomas to a 1990 carpenter FE, and a 1980 Superior.. and many in between..

there are several facebook groups for vintage school busses and others which are for old and new busses alike..

the vintage school bus archives facebook group is much more focused on seated busses but some do have conversions on there..

We had a teardrop for about ten years, loved it, then pickup truck camper now bus. Living in real luxury with the bus compared to the teardrop.

Kind of funny actually to bring a teardrop behind your bus

Ok, I just got the call from the park superintendent. We’re good to go for use of the park for the last two weeks of October!

Here’s what the site offers:

Free camping in 30 pull thru campsites with picnic tables(no electric or hookups)

Bathrooms on site

Pavilion on site

Basketball court

Baseball field (available for overflow parking depending on attendance)

Lake with dock

Who’s in? Let’s do Halloween in Arkansas...

Smith Park

Just outside of Doddrige, Ar.
