Texas Get-together

Ok, after many Texans suggesting we all get together, I'll open this thread and see where it goes and when/where we get together.

If your Skoolie is road-worthy, bring her along!

I'm in Katy, TX just west of Houston. Heavy Fuel is road worthy, but almost completely gutted inside. Perhaps this is good for those seriously looking to do a complete conversion like we are doing. I'm happy to show all the frustrations/delays/surprises and whatnots I've come up against.

There are some places nearby Katy we can meet depending upon how many people decide to commit to meeting in Texas. Always open to other venues!

Until Heavy's kitchen is actually constructed I'm planning on buying some food along the way. No need to burden others.

There is Steven Austin State Park nearby, possibly George Bush State Park along Westheimer Parkway.... If there is serious interest I'll dig a bit deeper.

Ok Texans, let's see who wants to get together!

Very cool.
I've had a few folks from here in Fl come check out mine.

IF yall don't mind a couple hippies passing through Texas, maybe me n Roxy will meander on out.

"...don't mind hippies?"...Hell, we LOVE Willie Nelson! Meander on in!

And my rig is still a long ways from being roadable, but I am up for a gathering just to say Howdy to other Skoolies in the area.

Where & when?

For me since school season is close, it'd have to be during a break like Thanksgiving to give me a good heads-up and prep time since I work six jobs (soon to be seven now, just got a call from a coach bus company to work any spare time I have, start tomorrow at 12:00 noon). I figure that or sometime during Christmas break. Now, mind you, that may change IF I get the promotion at my main job and becoming a parts manager.

I can always adjust my schedule since it's set in quick sand anyhow.....

I'm in southwest Houston. I don't have my bus yet. Still trying to arm myself with knowledge before the purchase. I can come look at everyone's bus though right? Lol

My rig is stowed in a crappy little metal shack near Washington Avenue & S. Shepherd. Usually there on weekends. Just give a heads up...and bring some work clothes.

We haven't made the plunge yet - still in the planning stages, but will be headed back to Texas after our summer jobs at Glacier National Park in Montana are done next week. I would definitely be interested to see first-hand what I can expect. I've been doing so much lurking and planning and scouring for the right bus for us, It'll be nice to see something tangible! We'll be back in Texas around mid-October... I'll keep my ears open!

Thanks and I love seeing everyone's progress/pictures/advice!

Opus, You ain't kidding! Spent the last half of July and most of August super-smoky and wondering where the next fire would spark up...not the usual season we are used to...

It has been like that 4 times this summer for weeks at a time.

Smoke is hard to filter out of interior breathing air.

Opus, where are you in MT?

Nat, what about you...what part of Alberta are you?

I'm at St. Mary, at the eastern entrance to Glacier...

I must've missed this thread when it was originally posted. My bus is in northwest houston about a half mile off of the beltway. I'd be up for a get-together sometime. Betty is in the middle of her build right now.
