1961 Ford/Wayne shortie!
Hey All,
I just my 1961 Ford B-500 with a Wayne body out of the paint shop! Now i just have to rebuild everything else, and it'll be ready to to camping... It has the stock engine, 292 with 2 bbl, T98 4-speed tranny, and gear splitter rear axle.
i don't have any good pics of the interior, but it looks pretty rough anyway. Does have a sink, stove, and frig on the passenger side, and a bench seat and closet on the driver's side.
I take sone decent pics soon.
later,
robert sanchez
ps, I live in the Denver area.

Re: the yellow.
I dunno, it's pretty obvious it's not a school bus any longer. I mean, look at it. It's awesome.
But has anyone here been hassled about that yet? I haven't seen it yet, but I wasn't looking.

Re: 1961 Ford/Wayne shortie!
It likely depends on the state it is registered in. There are some "No yellow" states, and if registered there it would be a problem. However, if the color is accepted in the state of registry, it is likely reciprocity would allow it to travel the other 48.

Re: 1961 Ford/Wayne shortie!
The bus is painted with the 2010 Ford pickup yellow, and I will
ess up any cop that tries to harrass me. Just kiding, I know most most of the the blues here in town. But i guess if I got pulled over for it, I would say it's a very pale orange. On the side, does anyone know a source for a Clark overdrive tranny?like a 251vo or a 264vo...

Where do you find a beauty like that?? Are they much more expensive than a newer school bus?? Awesome!

Re: 1961 Ford/Wayne shortie!
I story I heard follows: this bus was bought by a school district in
Montana in '61, until '65 or so, when they needed a bigger bus. They sold the shorty to the driver, and he did the conversion. He died in maybe '69, and that's when my grandparents bought it. I got it in about 2001, and haven't done crap with it till now. But I plan on dropping a 'few' bucks into it to get up to speed.

Re: 1961 Ford/Wayne shortie!
Damn it, I forget how to post a pic! But the interior is done. Natural maple wood cabinets, indoor/outdoor carpet, rebuilt stock Ford 292 with a 4-barrel carb(about 3000 miles total), headers, with an Eaton 5-speed tranny/

Re: 1961 Ford/Wayne shortie!
Brings back lots of memories as we had a '64 that was painted white. We took that bus places that were way off road. You have a nice bus and I like it.
