Re: 1990 E350 Conversion Project

Trunt - I'll have to look into that shutoff device.

Ferenzy - For the reason Trunt mentioned I hooked mine up with a two-stage regulator at the tanks feeding a manifold I cobbled up out of black pipe under the kitchen counter. I'd rather have a .5 psi leak than a 250psi leak if a hose was breached. I put a manual shutoff valve at the manifold so I can easily shut off the propane should the need come knockin'.

Re: 1990 E350 Conversion Project

Good info guys... I'm nowhere near ready to install the lines yet, so I haven't really started to researched it but it sounds like the two stage regulator with an emergency shut off is the way to go. I didn't realize the pressures got that high! Thank god for forums like this. On another note, I finished installing the floor, pictures to follow...

Be sure not to use Galvanized pipe guys.

Black iron, copper, or the yellow flex lines only.

re: propane pressure
The pressure in the tank at rest is an indicator of the ambient air temperature, not the amount of liquid left. The pressure might reach 200+ psi on a hot summer day, but is usually less.

We use 11 to 14 water-column inches to run a 70 kW generator. This is about 0.5 psi. Small generators less than 10 kW and probably most appliances use 7 water-column inches, or about 0.25 psi. In running two-stage regulators, I think it is common to have a 10 psi (277") "high pressure" regulator feeding the line to force an adequate flow to the step-down regulator(s) for the appliances.

Re: 1990 E350 Conversion Project

Ok, so I haven't worked on the bus in awhile, life and whatnot tends to get in the way every now and then but I recently started back up. First here are the pictures of the floor I promised. It's double layered 3/4" marine grade ply.

I also added an access panel for the fuel pump. It seemed silly not to add this convenience now when it could save you a huge headache later.

Thats the best insurance you could buy for an in tank fuel pump! Now that you can access it, the pump will never need replacing!

I just completed the steel frame seat mount for the drivers seat. It'll be boxed with plywood and probably have a pull out drawer for storage. It went smooth and is rock solid.

I know this thread is a couple of years old but I am starting a project just like this with an 89 E-350 bus. What did you use to mount the plywood to the metal frame? did you just screw right into the metal railings? Thanks.

I haven't seen Ferenzy on the forum for quite a while now, but it looks like he did screw the plywood down.

That's to bad. He had/has the same bus I do and am interested in how his conversion turned out. Thanks Roach711. I have been doing a ton of research here on how to handle the floors as mine will need to come up but I think I have a tin underbelly so fingers crossed.
