Had fun with my alternator today, had to take it to 5 places just to get it tested. Then found out it was dead, and got quoted $600 to replace it. I did however find a rebuilt one for $300 with a $50 core rebate though!

The alternator was the first repair on ours too. Did yours have the hi-amp one with a separate regulator?

Yep, 190 Amp with separate regulator. No one had it even listed. I found a guy in New Jersey rebuilding them.

Looks like they only came
in the mini bus application.

Ours was a 230 amp that was going to be expensive to repair so I replaced it with a standard 130 amp Delco. We don't need a lot of charging amps so it's worked fine.

Wow. There wasn't a metal floor in there at all? No wonder the floor rotted.
I hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get a good metal belly in there. Frankly it looks dangerous to me.

None of the fiberglass buses that I know of have metal floors. I think that I am going to need to rip it out and replace the steel cross members. Then debate on just going back with the wood or spending the $$ to go metal. I've seen both in here.

So I went to put on my alternator and the pulley is too small. I found. out that powerline changed the shaft diameter in the 2000's. Guys at robertsons are sending me a new pulley no charge though!

I got my pulley today and installed my new alternator in. Had to jump the bus to get it started but it's running good now. Tomorrow we start floor demolition.

Score for the day, dinette set that folds to a queen bed. This will go in the back of the bus which will allow for passage through the back door when the table is removed. $300 and had to drive to Michigan but well worth it. [
