Thank Opus --- I have contacted several custom gear shops but don't recall that one. Will do!

Hey Tango, from the easier said than done file, change out the axle and make a couple of wheel adaptor plates and get on down the road Don't you just hate the small stuff that ALWAYS gets in the way? Jack

Yep --- and all too often some of the small stuff turns out to be bigger than some of the other small stuff. Meanwhile...I did find a source for a brand new transmission wiring harness instead of the burned out, used unit I was considering. And at exactly the same price!

Onward!

Hey Guys ---I think I may have finally found an alternative to all our generator/solar/power needs!

Hey Jack...I don't know about you, but I WANT one of these! And somehow I wouldn't be surprised if one showed up on Ebay or Craigs' List. Just hope it comes with the operator's manual.

And an exposure tag Tango, is this thing for real? I must say it scares me to death--but thats probably only because of my training at Laurence Radiation Laboratories a million years and another lifetime ago. If it works and is safe it sure would be cool Jack

Jack --- That ad was from 1966...the view of "tomorrow" was quite different back then. Alas...I'm afraid it has gone the way of the Ford Nucleon. Personally, I don't believe there is any such thing as "safe" nuclear power. Just big money pushing it.

Re: '46 Chevy Shorty

Will be transporting my new Allison tranny out to the engine builder on Monday where it will be mated to the Cummins. Will try and get a couple of pix. May be the last time it is seen without a layer of grease & road grime. From there it will (finally) head for my shop where wrangling it into that narrow front end can begin.

Re: '46 Chevy Shorty

Congrats Tango, that is a big step foreward. Pics, before, during and after please.

We had a little earthquake here yesterday (6 on R scale) and it was a bit too much for the inlet water line on the water heater that serves the granny flat AKA parts room. No damage to parts but the tile and carpet and pad were wrecked. Of course the pipes in this 65 year old house must have been designed by LUCAS because all the cold water lines are galvanized and all the hot water lines are copper and you can get radio free Europe on the water heater just by turning the temp dial. I supose I should re-plumb the place, get rid of the three electric water heaters and put on a new roof while I am still able---------Nah, I'd rather work on the bus . Jack

Hey jack --- One more advantage of Bus Living...rubber tires limit Richter effects! Glad to hear you make it through the shake with minimal impact.

Re: '46 Chevy Shorty

Dang it! --- I transported my new Allison out to get mated to the Cummins and took my camera to get some pix..then, just as I was pulling into the drop off, got a call that my art studio might be on fire! Dropped the tranny and ran back only to find out it was a car fire at the other end of the block. Good news but no pix. Will get some when I pick up the whole package. Transmissions (especially Allisons) sure are purdy when they are all shiny & new!

Sheesh! Some people will come up with the craziest stories just so they don't have to post pictures. Next time you'll say the dog ate your camera.

Re: '46 Chevy Shorty

I'll bet that will produce some interesting pics--at least someone is taking pics . So glad your place was spared! After welding and before going home I try to remember to double check for hot spots. I remembered not doing it at about 2 AM this morning and tossed and turned the rest of the night. I got lucky too--no fire. Jack

Re: '46 Chevy Shorty

Hey Jack --- I know just what you mean. Especially after a day of setting myself on fire. I just can't let go of wondering..."did that last spark really go out?" But the call today was especially disturbing since it was a total stranger's screw up that was threatening everything I own...and is uninsured.

Re: '46 Chevy Shorty

Hey Guys --- I totally forgot that the chap at Stewart & Stevenson had Emailed me a pic of the tranny when we were discussing how to load it.
SO...without further ado...

...Ta-Daaah! This is what they look like all new & shiny.
I figure I'd better enjoy it now since it will very likely never be seen in this state again after spending time behind the Cummins.
Still have a bunch of related parts to scrounge to make it work (wiring harness, shifter, trans mount, etc.) but at least it's a start on the driveline.
