That's an amazing piece of art!
I initially thought you were doing it at your residence... Now you're going to have to search for the google earth image of it the next time sat pics are updated.

Back to bus stuff --- Spent the entire weekend relocating my shop & bus to the new digs. Had to hire some extra muscle to help get the "big stuff" into a 20' U-Haul but it was worth it. Once the shop was relatively cleared, I had a local wrecker haul the bus front wheels up after disconnecting the driveshaft. Thankfully, there was no drama involved. Still have a days worth of toting small stuff to do but hope to get back on the actual build within days.
ONWARD!

Yahoo!! Glad to hear it! I also would love to get back to bus stuff. At the moment, I am helping my wife take care of her Mom who just had her knee replaced, so really not able to get a lot of bus stuff done... itchin' to get back to it... Hoping that by next week I should be able to have more time.
Glad to hear the move was uneventful and keep us posted as always!

Working on a bus is hard. Working on getting to a place to even work on your bus has to be extremely frustrating.

The nice folks at re:HAB Bar on the Bayou are planning a gala "Premier" to officially launch the Big Bench. If you are in the neighborhood on Sunday, November 27th @ 3pm feel free to stop by for the Ribbon Cutting...and a few adult beverages. Way too much fuss for my blood, but they wanted to do something so I'll be there.
Aw shucks...it's just a big pile of cement guys!

Congrats Tango. That bit of recognition is well deserved!
Assuming you survive the Gala, how about a few pics of your new digs?

Yeah, I guess I'll have to pace myself. Especially since I re-negotiated the terms for the bench. I originally agreed to do it in return for "free drinks for life"...but recently up it to "free drinks for life...plus five years".
And I will try to get a couple of shop pix in the next few days. I have my gear already in, but we are still doing a ton of work. Adding insulation to the West facing wall, studs on 24" centers with OSB sheathing. We are getting the place so cheap, it's worth the upgrade. I already have a 16' workbench and a couple of large storage shelf units built, but there is more to do.

Finally Back to Work!!! --- Howdy all. Spent the past few weeks moving the bus, shop, tools, etc. and then trying to sort it all out without losing too many critical parts. But at last, it is done...more or less. The new shop space is great (and cheap). Had to build out a workbench and we walled the whole place with insulation and OSB so that took a few days (and bucks) but I am at last to a point that I can get some work done on the bus. I actually did some welding yesterday!
Taa-Daa! Clean and reasonably level floor, a roof that doesn't leak and insulation that isn't constantly raining down on everything. Sweet.
It looks bigger than really it is plus there are four "Art Cars" and Rat Rods that will soon occupy the balance of the space (I am sharing it with the guy who runs the world famous ArtCar Museum here in Houston). Great guy and builder whose brain I plan on picking. A lot.
Needed a bench so I built a big one.
Managed to weld up the frame mounted brackets for the new rear deck and begin laying out the rest of it. It will stick out 24" and have another 24" that folds up vertically while on the road then forms a 4' patio when parked. My Honda 3000 genny will sit on the driver side corner. The doodad hanging down is the spare tire carrier and crank I put together. That will all tuck up under the deck.
All for now, gotta try and get some more work done today.
ONWARD!

Roger that. The lack of real progress has been driving me nuts. I'm on my way there in the next few minutes. Won't be able to work very late though. The folks that I sculpted that giant bench for are actually throwing a party for it today. Technically...a "ribbon cutting". But with way more fanfare than I am comfortable with. But if anyone is in the area, you are welcomed to drop by for hors d'ouevres, a little music and some tasty adult beverages.
3 to 7 pm at RE:HAB Bar on the Bayou. And if you can't make it, below is how it turned out. 6,500 pounds of hand applied cement.
This is the other thing that took up a bit of my time.
Back to work now.

Love the tree, but am really envious of the new digs. Are you still close to the downtown area? I get "all a flitter" (in an old man kinda way) when I see your bus. The porch, with it's crank is something I had been thinking about, and now I may be able to see one in action.
Congrats

Wow @ that shop. Sounds like your shop-mate is as good as the shop itself! Good to see you back in action! Also that's one puurty big bench!

Yep...still close to downtown. Just a couple of minutes north of my art studios and just a block from US 59.
And the shop is mighty nice. Especially compared to where I had been working. Have spoken with the building owner about subleasing space there for other artists/car builders and just might do something along those lines. But really need to focus on getting my rig further along first. Headed there now.
