Just a single Holset HX30W here. But...I have seen a few over on the 4BT forum with four staged turbos. Nuts!...but very cool.

From my understanding... dont waste time/money on grid heaters. They don't do much for cold starts.. more for emissions. You can get them dirt cheap if you want one.. most 6bt guys delete them.

My engine came with the delete. Don't plan on spending time in any frigid weather but I may invest in one of the flamethrower devices JIC. From what I have read they work better anyway.

My Thomas has grid heaters. I suspect they don't work because they are supposed to switch on under 40F and I'd see the ammeter dip sharply ... That doesn't happen. Bus still starts but once it gets below freezing it struggles into life.

I think a block heater would be the most help. I have one but that's not working either. It shouldn't be an expensive fix when I get to it.

Mine has a block heater but the way everything is now crammed in...I cannot fit the plug. And since it needs a 120 source it wouldn't be much help out in the boonies unless plugged into a genny.

That's why I am looking at the Thermostart gizmo.

Mid 20 mornings and below, my 5.9 will not start w/o the grid heater energized. After the heater's on, it starts instantly. YRMV.

Starting is good --- Whatever it takes/works.

Got some plumbing lines run. Whoop. Big deal.

Going with Pex. Still need the fancy ass fitting doodad but will work something out.

Red is for HOT. Harder to get crossed up this way. Besides...it costs the same. The fact that my walls are not straight has finally yielded a benefit. The 3/4" that it is out of square provides just the right amount of space to run both plumbing and 12v electrical behind my shower.

ONWARD!

Actually, I contacted Mr. Peabody and had him use his "Wayback" machine to make sure they made the right allowance.

No, that's about right. Tango and I are MUCH older than we look. Back in our day kids had to walk up hill both ways in the snow to get to school--of course the school bus had yet to be invented. But that's OK 'cause what doesn't kill you just makes you stronger--and more alluring to members of the Swedish bikini team. Isn't that right Tango?

That Peabody! He is easily distracted.

If what don't kill ya makes ya stronger...vatch out Svcharttenager! And the girls on the team were asking when you might be down in Texas. Seems they like the climate here what with nothing but bikinis in their wardrobes. The current plan has them coming back for 4th of July...then again in September...and again in November. Take yer pick!

More Stuff --- FINALLY!!!...I just got my doghouse from the sheetmetal shop! (after only 4-1/2 months). Also picked up some elements to fab a protective path for my trans lines going to the new cooler.

Here are the three major elements of the doghouse I have been waiting on for so long. And one of them ( the base) I made months ago.

What the pieces look like when together. Still a lot to do before I can mount it in the bus.

Making the frame in such a way that it will...A. Seal...and B. Be easily removable was no small task.

The sealing lip was the tricky part. Everything else I could have done myself. But bending 14 ga. steel to fit over the frame just right took tools (and skills) I don't posses.

I am also working on a tower to mount an E brake lever. The handle is from a Jeep. I'm hoping I can mod it to pull the driveline brake on my Allison.

Hope to run my sketches by my builder buddy in a couple of days to see what he thinks.

And...speaking of sketches...

I am still trying to come up with a solution for my air filter. Want to do something that looks like what the Big Rigs run on the side of their cowl. We'll just have to wait and see where this goes.

And finally...

Just some quarter inch plate I had folded to make a guard for my tranny oil lines. This I'll drill and weld up myself.

ONWARD!
