CK,
that is how all my other turbo diesels do it. there is an oil / air separator in the valve cover to eliminate real fluid to end up in the intake.
All gas engines do the same with the PCV

mine has an aftermarket filter. its made by RACOR.. but i still en d up with a little oil in the intake pipe.. not alot just a little. . so evidently a little oil wont hurt the turbo compressor?

Oil into the turbo intake? My guess is a tiny amount won't hurt, but if the flow ever gets high enough, a diesel can run on it. Make that "run away" on it.

Awsome glad you found a cap to get rid if that thing, it opens up alot of space inside their for alot less stress working.

so yours is likle mine.. with the crank case vent going into the intake.. to me it seems like a dumb design because any oil in your blow-by draft ends up in the turbo.. at least thats how mine is plumbed in... (mine was aftermarket).. or is that a different tube going into there?
-Christopher

thanks,
Im pretty sure your turbo & setup are exactly like ours. mine does go to the turbo if you dont overfill your oil you shouldent have much of a problem. i have seen a few people reroute the vent tube down under the truck & down to the rear of the vehicle with hose & pvc pipe. not something i would do tho.

the 444E is generally built with just a draft tube to the ground.. the schools added an aftermarket RACOR device to recirc the CC gasses like yours are.. and yeah ive over-filled the oil before.. I dont get a lot of oil in there.. just notice residue when I had the pipes apart to replace one of the rubber couplers this summer.. I didnt actually take the pipe off the turbo and look at the compressor... though at 9000 hours i should probably think about rebuilding the turbo at some point before I blow a seal

When i took the turbo off for the first time there was no damage to the turbo anywere so after 170k miles ill say alittle bit of oil in the turbo is just fine. just a bad design.

Both my previous 1998 shorty with 444E and my current 04 with DT466E both have draft tubes that go straight to the ground right near the front axle.

probably buses and trucks can get away with that, dumping oily blowby outside on the street is not very environmentally sound practice, especially not when engines are worn down and the blowby is substantial.
I am in the process of getting my mechanical lift / pressure pump removed and mount the filter under the van with an electric fuel pump. It is already cramped in these vans and maybe it was a good idea when new but after 170000 miles and stuff starts to go bad it is easier to work on it when its gone. Having replaced two fuel pumps in the past and that is not a fun project.

Damn that's 20 hours from me! If the weather's good maybe I'll make the trip sometime in the next couple years. Looks like the Salton Sea isn't far. I would check that out. I've heard of festivals at Joshua Tree over there.

Tried for some metal detecting in Quartsite before i showed up to the bus meet. Leg was hurtin so didnt do much.
I also didnt stay long at all, just enough to meet a few people look at 2kool4skools paint job got the hell out, too much pain for enjoyment.
Next year tho i am going to hopefully have a paramotor so i can buzz around everyones head & the surrounding mountains cause they were so jagged, bizzare & really an amazing site. Next year will be the ****.. mike camping next door.. sorry for the lack of pics it was get lost time for me so no pics or internet.
**Back to work. I guess..
Poster finally came in.

Sorry we didn't get to meet out at Skooliepalooza...our bus broke down and we just came through in our car during the potluck last night... I thought I recognized your rig from here, but I wasn't sure who it belonged to... Hope the leg feels better!
