What a great looking Thor. I understand the void, you feel. I always like
"traveling buddies" too. Get that bus going, soon. It will help to take your mind off your lose, sooner.

Trying to stay busy, but it is hard. Rubber undercoating,? fire proof spray.? I don't know what the hell this crap is but It is gone, dam I love power tools.
What is next.?
* upgraded transmission cooler going to drop in a 21 row get rid of my crappy little 12 row. drop temps in half
*full transmission service
*performance tuner chip
* beilstien shocks & steering stabilizer whenever I get a day off work.
* rear air suspension install.

So after reading your thread. I'm left with one big question...
If I buy a Ford 7.3 and don't do any of your mechanical upgrades,
Would it still have a decent bus?
Amen to you ! Thanks for sharing.

Those are reliable engines that have been around for a while now. He's like a hypochondriac. You don't have to do all of this but more power to ya!
Most importantly I would say is to decide where you will be going. If you will be avoiding mountainous regions it's a lot easier.

oricha1984 - mechanical upgrades are not necessary but i do plan on keeping this for a very very long time, plus live in it so i natually just love to take pride & upgrade my prized possessions. major transit companys, private buisness, ambulance company's, school districts etc..use the 7.3l everyday without issues, cause they are very well built. The newer 6.0's are reliable too just not the older ones.

Other than filters and fluid change, I was looking into which tranny cooler to buy. I see you when with trucool. Good reviews online.

oricha- i was going back & forth between a 26 row from a 6.0 &the true cool, im not towing anything & i occasionaly will do mt. Roads. So i settled for tc. But the 6.0 coolers will drop right into the 7.3l either way you cant really go wrong.

I put a tranny temp gauge on mine. With my stock cooler it rarely goes over 180 degrees- I don't think its ever hit 200. (And ambient temp has a BIG effect-that 180 during the day will go to 160 at night.) On a Ford diesel forum I go to, one of the posters is a former Ford transmission engineer. He says all testing is performed at 220 degrees.

sdwarf36- that is good to know cause here in southern California the summers can get pretty bad.
Chasing engine codes led me to this glow plug, you can't upgrade one thing & expect for everything else not to break down, but I think the engine code is gone for good. I I have my meter on a low ohms reading but it still over loads, it reads on M.ohms but it should not.

It does makes sense to invest in a temp gauge before doing the upgrade.
