Aah. OK; thanks. That's how I was taught when I did the one-day special back in the 70s. Sprung the extra $20 for the 2nd jump, too. I eventually wimped out and turned to hang gliding as a safer sport. In my dotage I hope to take up paragliding, or at least powered paragliding.

PLF is pretty obsolete as it's a technique for landing in a parachute that was round and usually swinging you side to side, so a side impact was trained for. The newer "square" parachute bring you in at a much higher forward motion. Once the technique is learned you can land your parachute on one tippy toe.

Yep, you're absolutely right yet again.....it's so obsolete that it's still required training in every USPA-sanctioned First Jump Course taught in the US.

Are they till doing 1st jumps with round or square chutes. I just don't see PLF's being effective under a square. I've made a few jumps, active D license D5764. Not much has changed in the basic USPA handbook in the last 40 years.

Nice, i was wondering how you were able to pick up his name as being on the topic of skydive related, paragliding or paramotoring is so much more versitile, thats what drew me towards it over hang gliders..

A proper PLF is taught because any jump can end badly, no matter what you're flying under, as any real jumper would know.
And the D# you claim would have been issued in the late 1960s, which would make you around 70 yrs old.

It was issued in 1978, and I'm not that old.....yet
Hang gliding is near the top of my bucket llst.

Back to the future i think is just off by 100 years.
Things that make you want to cry but you cant cause your not supose to cause your a man.
Time for a redue.
Problem #1 i did not spray adhesive down my poster cause it was a sticky on, well i learned my lesson, glue the shiittt down mofo.
#2 i did not mix the epoxy properly so it did not cure & stayed sticky. Mix the fuuuckken shiiit for 6 minutes.mofo

Actually, I had a foggy memory of it being discussed on another of PLFKing's threads. But yeah, I tend to retain anything having to do with getting into the air. My parents swear my first word was "helicopter".
And for the record unpowered flying appeals more than powered flying. Somehow the idea of flying with a lawn mower strapped on your back sounds like a non-zen thing to do, although it's better than not flying.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I thought I was the only crazy person who wanted to do an epoxy counter... I was thinking live edge slab epoxy river flowing into my sink personally, but I NEVER see any builds with an epoxy counter, so I was starting to think I was just dreaming.

Buut being able to jump up to 3k to watch the sunrise on a beautiful summer morning makes up for that non zenny noise, plus you can always wear ear muffs & kill engine when you get to altitude for a moment of silence..
