Cutaway vacation home
I have started my project today. Goal is a having a place to stay while I am here on vacation and have no need to block a friends room. I will also build it only when on vacation so it will take it's time.
Bus is a Ford E350 / Ward. Unfortunately someone started converting it into a support truck. He removed the left side windows and covered them with sheet metal. Also everything, beds and closets were build out of metal. So 2 full days with the angle grinder to cut everything out. Even the floor is cut, I need to close that first before starting with the floor.
I was thinking first about a real shorty believing the cutaway is too small. After all that work today I am happy that for example I had to deal only with 6 windows. Everything bigger would be nicer but too much of a project with the time given and I think just for me the size is good enough.

all windows are back in. Still need to weld the floor. To do so, the bus has to drive. Bus did operate the last time in 1997. Started right up. Going home now so work will be interrupted for weeks.
Starting to really like that thing. Perfect size for me.

Looks good Horst. We have one with one window more and single rear wheels with 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. Little tight but for one person it can be palace.

I have been an Oscar Deuce fan ever since I saw one in Danang in '66 just as I was leaving. They weren't officially deployed for another year but there were a couple there that I guess were being tested. I am pretty sure they were "company" planes based on the total lack of markings.
And we have another rotary pilot on the forum. "Guido" spent some quality time driving them around unfriendly desert areas and is currently working on his instructor cert here in the Houston area. Super guy, we just need to find him a bus to play with.
And I'm sSorry guys...but wings that go round and round just don't sound right...so I'm gonna stick with fixed wings.

I understand everyone not liking helicopters as being a rotary guy I don't like fixed wing.
Have to admit however that an airplane like this is cool.

I've been up in helicopters 10x's, but don't know what it's like to land in a helicopter. Jumped out of every one.

I actually got to straddle a missile pod on a Cobra Strike helicopter and sky dive off it once. I can't believe how many pilots took chances with their licenses back in the late 70's early eighties when I was a sky diving instructor. The Cobra jump wouldn't have lost the pilot his license, he was military, but could have seriously gotten him an ass chewing at his commanders found out. I jumped out of the Goodyear Blimp illegally. Camaraderie goes a long way. Every odd ball plane that showed up at our drop zone I immediately was on them asking if I could jump out of it. My list of strange things  to jump out of or off us is extensive.

My jumping off planes & objects career is just about to begin. soon as the bus is done. my first helicopter ride was with the Riverside county sherriff department. i found human remains at the lake next to my house in the hills while geocahcing. it was a young autistic girl who been missing for a few years. poor girl.
