Ford e-350 Super Duty Engine issues?

Hi Everyone,

I'm giving serious thought to a Ford E-350 Super duty mini bus. It's from 2005 and has 154,000 miles. I'm not sure how long I'll be living in this.

It is a 5-speed automatic with a v8 engine.

I feel like I remember something about serious engine issues with some type of engine in these buses. Is anyone familiar?

Also, any opinions on this type of vehicle, or alternative recommendations?

Thanks so much everyone,

MR

Which v8? There were several that were offered in the E350s.

2005 diesel would be the 6.0L engine. If you can afford to bulletproof it and hope for reliability, then good luck. Pass on that bus. I work on a lot of 6.0L Powerstroke engines and makes lots of money doing it.

The V-10 gas engine and its smaller brother the 5.4 V8, had spark plug problems early in 1999 and up to 2002, but fixed in 2003. .If its the 6.0 diesel...what Mullet said.

The 5.4 Liter 3 valve with variable valve timing is prone to failure. The cam phasers start acting up. Miss fires, sputtering, runs rough. Either cam phase failure or can be an oil pressure issue. the whole system works on oil pressure. Personally would stay away from this engine. 5.4 liter 2 valve is much more reliable.

All the above commenters are correct. I'd avoid a 6.oh like the plague, only engine I've seen that was worse than the 6.0h powerstroke was the GM 6.2/6.5 diesels.
After ford dropped the 7.3 powerstroke all their newer diesels are money pits.

5.4 liter isn't to bad and the 460 and 351 gas engines are all ok in my book.Although they do have some problems they easily last 150 - 200 thousand miles.
