Irma and me

Living in South Florida is sure exiting during hurricane season, especially this year. Irma became the strongest hurricane ever recorded. I was all fued up with nowhere to go, so I rode Irma out in shorty at a rest area in Ft myers and 75. Only 6 miles inland from the gulf. This is my story

Ok, so most folks freak the heck out if the power goes out for 5 minutes. Florida residents made a mass exodus from the lower half of the state to avoid being stuck. I decided to get my sh stuff together and get to higher ground and ride it out in the bus. I figured I could get away with pulling doubles and never had a problem hooking everything together that I would need for work when it cleared up again.

I loaded the dogs, food, extra fuel, water and set out to find a spot to ride the storm out.

I drove my rig on that Thursday to 75 and Danials rd and found the local rest area was as good a spot as any. Lots of space and it had bathrooms, soda machines and the highway patrol had a sub station in the back behind the picnic area. Logic told me this place would have priority for power being turned back on. I was correct. Never lost power at that rest area and I had a clear path with mo water crossings back to FMB. they close all bridges by the way, keeping one from going anywhere. Found a good spot for my second amendment, right where I could get to it in case of trouble.

The first day of evac was kinda dull so I returned that evening to a local honky tonk on FMB for a hurricane party. It was nice to unwind a bit with a cold beer and the weather forcast was pumping out on the big screen and the taps were pumping out ice cold beer.

Was there a spike in crime? And looting. Seems the scum really come out and make a bad situation worse.

Fmb is a key. Small town atmosphere. No looters here maybe in Ft Myers there was a few break ins. Never heard of much trouble on the beach tho.

The next day was Irmas all day. It just started out with a few rain showers and mild wind gusts but as the day progressed so did Irma.

cool stuff.. I made sure i was far away from my st pete place.. got lucky and the storm tracked east and put tampa bay on the west side.. but it looked like things were gonna get real from marco all the way up!. how did FMB fair? I know friends in Marco that took a LOT of damage.. windows, screen rooms, 2 feet of water in their house, many of their ptrees down.

When it started blowing harder I kept the nose to the wind as best as I could. Eventually I dared not move anymore. The little bus felt like it was floating on air, where there was standing water there was now a moving river that defied gravity going down the bank and up and over the other side. I had a panoramic view of it all. My phone eventually died and pictures wouldn't show much anyway so I have screen shots of facebook posts.

And then it ended. For 10 minutes the sun came out and the pups and I took a few quick pictures before my phone batt died again. Power was out at the rest area but still had a cell signal. South of the eye was pretty much rain free and just a gusty wind. Slept like a baby and made my way back to Fort Myers Beach the following morning.

Fort Myers got a shot across the bow with Irma, Marco Island and Naples took much of the blast, still we had some flooding and tree damage but we got our knock out punch with Charlie years earlier.

That day the broken down little parade bus that I've spent my weekends tinkering with and getting my farmboy yaya's out on got its official war rig name. Thanks to Irma it will now and forever be known as "Master Blaster".

REPORT: Hurricane Harvey Sexually Harassed Hurricane Irma

REPORT: Hurricane Harvey Sexually Harassed Hurricane Irma

October 6, 2017 misternews 2 Comments

New data reveals that Hurricane Harvey was much more grievous than previously believed. The hurricane was the worst such storm to hit the US in 12 years, leaving behind a path of destruction and $71 billion dollars in damages. But new research suggests that Harvey was much more sinister than scientists had imagined. Shockingly, scientists believe Harvey may have lingered around the Florida panhandle for days waiting for Hurricane Irma to arrive.

“At first we thought he was just going back out to sea to regain strength,” National Weather Service scientist Julia Phillip stated, “But then we noticed he was shadowing Irma.”

When Irma made landfall she was met by Harvey, in a bathrobe, trying to integrate their storm cells.

The startling discovery has meteorologist’s baffled as they had never known hurricanes to exhibit this type of behavior. But when going back into records, Phillips found this type of behavior repeated frequently when powerful hurricanes crossed paths with weaker ones.

“Any time you have an big, ugly, powerful hurricane, it becomes opportunistic and will try to take advantage of smaller, weaker systems,” Phillips said, “Oftentimes these instances go unreported because to storms eventually dissipate, only to come back stronger, acting with even more impunity.”

Meterologists have also noticed an even stranger pattern. “Gender classification analysis does seem to show that male storms are far more likely to display this kind of behavior than females,” Phillips added, “And it’s not just hurricanes. Tropical Storm Bill O’Reilly has been exhibiting this behavior for nearly a decade.”
