Isabella: 2000 International Short Bus

Hello, skoolie community! This thread is going to be about my school bus conversion. I recently purchased a 2000 International 3800 DT466E short bus from an auction site. My plans are to completely renovate it and turn it into my home for my Junior and Senior years of college. I've watched a lot of videos of other peoples buses and I'm excited to get started on mine here in a month or so when I finish school. I've got a lot to learn yet and any suggestions/ideas/help will be greatly appreciated!

Steps Completed

Step 1: Find the right bus for the right price.
Step 2: Win the auction.
Step 3: Wait for a free weekend to go home and pick it up.
Step 4: Get Plates and Title
Step 5: Get insurance
Step 6: Drive bus home
Step 7: Begin deconstruction

This is everything I did last weekend. When I got it home I started by taking out all the seats (super easy). The next day we started removing the floor (Extremely Hard). When I bought the bus the ad said "bad floors" so I took the chance and went for it.

My bus has what they call L tracks so the seats could be easily added/removed/moved around. I guess somehow water got under the rubber in a few places around them and there were very rotted. However, the metal floor of the body only has surface rust and is completely solid so far. I will add pictures once i figure out how to do so.

Here are the before pictures of the bus. I plan on posting more as the build continues in a month or so. It's a 6 window short bus with a handicap door on the passenger side where the wheelchair lift is. Inside dimensions are 15' long from the back of the driver's chair, 7'6" wide and about 6'2" tall in the center.

Congrats! Sounds similar to my 1999 International Shorty also with a DT466E and an AT545. How many feet long is yours? Mine is 25ft from front to rear bumper.

Thanks, and that's awesome! Sounds like we're pretty much twins! I think mine is also 25' bumper to bumper. 6 windows on the driver side and 4 on passenger with a handicap door in the back for the wheelchair lift.
