I'm in the hunt for a short bus but most I've found have wheelchair lifts. I have been passing them by w/o really looking because I thought the lift door would seriously complicate things. But I got to thinking that it might not be that bad so my question is for those who have converted a bus w/lift-How bad/good was it? Did you just seal the opening or did you take advantage of it? I know I've seen a conversion where the door became a ramp in a live-in mobile workshop but I can't find the thread anymore (not even sure its on this site-memory's going). I recently purchased a short bus with wheelchair lift for my conversion. As x225x said though, I specifically wanted it to be able to load dirt bikes. But even if this wasn't the case, I don't see the lift/opening as being a hindrance. If you remove the lift you are left with a nice, large opening to load/unload cargo, luggage, etc. Or maybe it could be used to create a fold out porch off of a bedroom or second entrance. Or of course you could just panel over it and forget about it.
my Bus had a lift, I took it out, but that side door is where I sit and do work while parked (i run a mobile Software / hardware DEV lab) so its like my open air feeling door.. so I love having the door even though I yanked the lift out.
I wish mine had a lift. I would use it as a shower pan and cover my azz with a shower privy tent. Water drains to the ground. This way you don't lose interior space for a dedicated shower.
The shower sounds like a awesome idea. If I wasn't using it for a MC lift, I would do that.
I came from teardrop trailers, and I hate class a's. I think they're crap. And I would love a lift that way I can boodock at track days and traveling period. Maybe every now and then stop at a campground. But I'm a stop at a rest area/keep moving kind of guy.

I sealed my wheelchair doors. The original door latches were in the way so I had to make up some brackets to hold the door shut, then I caulked the hell out of the outside door seals.
I'm turning my lift into a foldout bathroom, going to put a composting toilet on rails of some sort so it can be used underway, popup tenr for privacy. Hadnt planned on a shower but it may happen.

Keep what? from freezing.. I would use a bucket for water and a battery operated shower pump. If you want to plumb a water system, then you would need to winterize just like a motorhome.
