New Member New Bus!

Short bus living. The conversion begins!: https://youtu.be/JMA8pHUJ2xQ

Since this video I've taken the linoleum you and the wood underneath is not rotted at all. I've also been under the bus and the body seems to be in great shape with hardly any rust.

So, since I have no idea what I'm doing and the ply wood subfloor seems impossible to get up. How bad of an idea would it be to just put down insulation on top and hardwood laminate over that?

Thank you everyone for this forum!

Complete fail for a living space.

Short term steel tent, sure.

Not for living.

laminate is complete garbage and should never be used in a wet environment / bus. Vinyl plank is what you should be using.

That's what I meant to call it: vinyl plank it's called, my bad.

So if I have the layers plywood, insulation, and then vinyl plank that's okay?

Thank you so much

Nat's gonna tell you not to use any plywood... but more or less yeah that's how many folks do it.
I'll be building my floor out of marine grade plywood.

I'm even going to use laminate flooring in the center of the floor...

As long as you don't mind buckled up $hit in the middle of your floor, use all the laminate you want.

Yes plywood under the vinyl plank.

I find it funny how everyone wants to skip insulation due to lack of head room, then they waste 3/4 of a inch with useless plywood that could have been a sheet of steel 3/16th of a inch thick.

If you must use plywood, Jake C did it right.

I won't use laminate. I appreciate everyone's expertise.

I may not do my conversion the best way but thanks to this forum I'll do it a much better way than what I would have done on my own.

I second the way Jake C did it, that is also the way I am doing it on a bus I am currently working on.

I finished getting all of the seats out today. Tried first removing them with a friends help with a wrench underneath the bus and one up top and that got us nowhere. So began what most seem to do and I shaved off all the bolts with an angle grinder. First time using one and thankfully didn't hurt myself.

I think I'm done with demolition. And so begins the flooring that I've been taking advice from everyone on using foam insulation board and the vinyl plank on top.

Once I'm done with that I'm thinking of using reflectex insulation on the sides with simple wood paneling over it.

Thanks for the interest!

I'm going to hopefully finish the floor this weekend. I put the floor insulation down just need to seal the seams with reflectix tape and lay down the vinyl plank.

After that I'll insulate over the metal walls and use wainscott for paneling.

I'll shoot another video showing my progress and post it.

Made some advancements since the last video. Have no idea what I'm doing so it's slow going. Any information and critiques is always appreciated. Enjoy!
