Purchasing a 2005 bus

I am currently in the process of buying a 2005 school bus. The seller informed me that because of CA emissions laws, I will only be able to drive it 5000 miles per year in the state of California (where I mostly will be driving). I plan on converting the bus to an RV that I will be using as a mobile video studio. Once converted, do I still have to follow these California emissions laws? Also, what is the process to getting it retitled? Will I be able to? Does anyone know where I go for insurance on this kind of vehicle? Thanks. I'm so new to this and I am in way over my head and I am on a serious deadline. Any help will be so appreciated.

Re: Purchasing a 2005 bus

first welcome

and I haven't been out of the country to visit Kali in years

I am sure as an RV it's exempt, others will post

good luck and pictures are awesome...if you don't have the bus and feel like posting pictures that are yours...(and clean )
go for it to humor us......and threads seem to derail and everyone hy-jacks...don't worry it means they care

Super clean looking and a great configuration for a shorty. What engine & tranny?

Re: Purchasing a 2005 bus

Just a heads up---You will want to be real low profile if you use your skoolie/rv for a photo studio as this will be deemed a commercial use in Calif. You'll then be subject to commercial weight fees on the bus and business lic. in each city you "work" in. One word of advertisement on your bus will get you stopped if you are running r/v plates. Also, commercial plates will require commercial insurance though you may want that anyway just in case a photo subject misses a step and falls out of your bus.

Convert the title to motorhome. Put a bed in it, cooking facilities, a portapottie. If your bus is an E450, the GVWR is 14,050 pounds and the tougher smogs laws apply if it stays commercial. I still think you have 20 years from DOB before having to install a DPF.
