once you get into that 08+ stuff then things get really hairy as far as repairs.. special tools and much more secure computers (so people dont defeat power-sucking emissions stuff)..

Cummins still charges for their diagnostic software, as does Cat. Both diagnostic suites can be found pirated online for free, or a minimal charge. Use at your own risk because they've been known to carry viruses. Also, those programs are usually a year or two out of date, but are still somewhat functional diagnostically.

As a side note, the pirated stuff is usually what's found on the "all in one diagnostic lap top" that you can buy on ebay, and craigslist.

As far as the reprogramming goes, both manufacturer's require a subscription and internet access to work. That kind of stuff is purchased directly from the distributor and is only available to dealerships and certain school districts.

There are tuners that use back door methods to create and load custom programming onto an ecm. Use those guys at your own risk. I know of a guy in Canada that's pretty good at it. Sadly, there are more out there that aren't any good. I've seen examples of new engines ruined by some hack tuner working out of the trunk of their car.

I can get you the number for a bus seller here it's a contractor that does all the school routes around me mostly Fe or conventional. Rusty but 2-3k some lower

Had a good swing and a miss on an OH bus that went a little too high for a parts bus for me.
Got a couple of buses I'm scoping out now, hopefully something will happen and we'll have our bus up and running 100% this year.

I just want a solid, good running engine and newer tires than my bald recaps.
