Well the bus is at the dealer. They said it should be done today or tomorrow!
The dealer and tow truck driver were friendly and courteous, which is rare in this industry.

Tow company was top-notch, very professional and showed up right on time. Best tow I've ever gotten. Should be for $375!

Here it is getting dropped off at the dealer.

At first I thought the tow truck was a small Pete, but no its a newer IC. With a Cummins. Kinda ironic, maybe?

I want those wheels!

I like their poster in the "lobby"

Such a great quote!!

They're open 7am till midnight, so pickup time should be easy enough to arrange. So far so good, hoping that paying for it is the only negative part of this!
I do feel good that the bus isn't at a "bubba" shop I've never tried. If I'm gonna have to spend a ton of money on a repair I may as well go all out, that's the way I see it anyhow.
I still want to get "in" with the local "bubba" shop though. They have to be pretty darn good to be as busy and as reputable as they are.

Once we get the bus back I've GOT to get a new solenoid for it. The electrical stuff quit working again. I think the solenoid finally gave up. Josh managed to get a few days' life out of it for me.
The gauges are now acting up really oddly, too. And when I set it to high idle to get the air pressure up to move it, the high idle wouldn't disengage. I had to shut the bus off to make it idle normally.

the brake pedal should disengage it.. there are 2 brake switches .. if theres any windshield leaks at all over time water drips onto those switches and jacks them up.. (ask me how i know this).... that can cause wierdness with the high idle cutoff..

your bus could also be programmed with auto high idle in which the dash switch wont turn it off only the brake pedal.

Negatory on the brake pedal- it did nothing. It never high idles unless you make it with the switch.
IDK... These newer "E" buses are always full of electrical weirdness.
It was acting fine, we had everything "working", and today the gauges quit and the idle stuck. Couldn't do anything except turn it off. Started it back up and no gauges but idled normally. Shut it off and restart, and gauges worked again.
Just gonna have to eat this can of worms one worm at a time I guess.

Oh, I never tried to rush them or imply to them we were in any hurry. The longer they take, the better as its a LOT of money to pay out.
But they were like "yeah we probably coulda had it done today if you'd been here a few hours ago, but we can get on it tomorrow no problem".
They're a huge, high volume International service center open 17 hours a day and they have a huge staff so I'll bet they don't take too long.
But we're definitely not going to be rushing them at all.

One good thing about taking it there is that they KNOW these engines and work on them a lot, so if anything is to terrible they'd be more likely to catch it.

and they should warranty and stand behind there work. Regardless of the price, the quality of their work will remain I hope. Good to get in with those folks albeit costly, at least they will know you now and help you in future. Might be a good place to find a job down the road.

John

great looking tow truck, worth a few shackles too!

That was just the tow company's rig. The dealer doesn't do their own towing. I called around but these guys were the most highly rated. No regrets. The guy was nice and gentle with my bus.
But yeah my wallet is definitely not enjoying this one bit.

Got two new solenoids for 78 shipped. Will use the one working one I have now as a backup.
Now have a backup solenoid and wiper motor. The parts pile has begun.
Got all the stuff to change the tranny fluid and both filters, and a big honkin oil filter for the next oil change.
Tomorrow I'm off to Rural King for 12 gallons of oil to do Sandi's bus and for my next change.
Now to sell off a few things I don't need to raise some tire money! My two inner rears are BALD, and I have nails in at least two tires, one front one rear.

It will cost you more than you had planned, but it will be the bus you wanted with all the nasty suprises taken care of.
