Short-bus question about headroom

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I'm thinking of buying a short-bus to convert to an RV. I have many questions, but the first one on my mind is headroom. I am 6'4" tall, and the buses I have inspected so far have had ceilings that were probably about 6'3". Am I pretty much constrained to that height with a short bus? I'm looking for one that has 8-9 windows (that's how I've been measuring length). I've looked at an AMTRAN and a Bluebird. I know some of the long buses have more headroom, but I'm wondering if any shortbuses have more headroom than 6'3"?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Short-bus question about headroom

My little short bus (check out my avatar ---->) has a 6'4" ceiling. I am only 6' tall so there is plenty of room.

Hi Dan, I have a 96 Carpenter short bus, I'm 6'4" and one of the reasons I liked this bus is because of the ceiling height. Other buses I looked at I could not stand up in.

Thanks for your reply. I'm curious: how much space do you have above your head when standing in the center of the aisle? I imagine myself doing the dishes in a sink that will be on a side wall, and thus have less headroom than the central walk-way. I wonder what percentage of buses, or which models have wood subfloors, and how much headroom would be gained by removing that floor...

Re: Short-bus question about headroom

Not much, I still find myself ducking a little when I walk past the roof hatch, but I can stand in the middle. My buss has a wooden sub floor but not sure how thick that is. Once the weather gets warmer here in N.J. I plan on remodeling the interior and taking up the floor is on the list. I plan on installing some type of noise insulation (I was looking into www.quietcar.net) then I would think that the wood sub floor will have to be replaced. The roof does slope on either side. In the center it measures about 77" at about 2 feet from the side it measures about 74.5". Hope this helps.

Re: Short-bus question about headroom

Thanks BigTex, I'm waiting for the next AISD bus auction here in Austin to see if I can get a good deal. Failing at that, I'll have to start scouring the countryside for the right bus. I'm not in a hurry though, I've got another project car I need to get out of the driveway before bringing a bus in.
