Suggestions to eliminate the gynormous passenger side mirrors.

Need to get rid of the YUGE mirror on the passenger side. That thing sticks out like 4 ft...and is nothing but a branch grabber. I thought about removing it and sectioning the mount to pull it in towards the windshield more. Then I thought somebody out there might have a better solution so I'm throwing it out there.

I hace been surfing the web for the same type mirror. I have a 2000 International AmTran and my wife and I don't want those stock mirrors either. Did you locate a vendor?

I'll post my thought again, but this time with a picture:


Tow mirrors can be pulled out and pushed back in. Pull 'em out on the paved road. Push' em in on the back roads. The style in the picture above will also fold in if you hit something with them.

I've got those exact mirrors on my F-350; they mount to the door. If these would mount to any flat surface, I might be able to make it work.

I had one of those on a ski-boat when I was a kid, except it came out the side and we didn't call it a mirror, we called it a bare-foot pole!!!! Is that thing legal? Does it need to have a red flag on it because it sticks out so far??

Care to share a picture of the passenger side? It could help for ideas..

I personally would prefer a good 'ol fashioned side-view mirror to a camera due to simplicity. If your right side looks anything like the picture below I don't see why normal mirrors wouldn't work. I'll be helping a friend do the exact same thing to his E350 mini-bus which is parked in my driveway. It'll require some minor fabrication to get them in the right spot with the right angle, but I don't see any reason why it won't work.

This is what I have -seems to work ok. But I think you are looking at things wrong. Maybe its a shitty mirror-but it looks like an awesome place to hang towels-mount a flag-tie off an awning etc.

The purpose of this bus is to be in off – Road camper. I need mirrors that won't get ripped off by the trees. That is the whole point of this thread.

Yeah, my friend's bus is planned for the same purpose: backroad/off-road camping. That's why we want mirrors that will fold in if they hit something. You should see where we have it parked right now! It couldn't be much more off road. It's pretty much living in the forest on a slope facing down to the river! ☺️of course the wheels are chocked and 4x4 cribbing is holding the back up so it doesn't roll over us while we do the brakes

Shouldn't share this but 50 (yes fifty) years ago I had a brand new Suburban 4X4 that I camped out of. The scrawney factory outside rear view mirrors were OK with the brush I drove threw but I kept tearing the cowl mounted antenna off. Bright lad that I was, I installed a spring loaded antenna to prevent any further damage. The thing worked great until I found myself in a position where I had to back out of a thicket. The antenna was OK with that. It just had to move forward as I backed up--it did and once free of the brush it snapped back and






BROKE MY WINDSHIELD!

My bus is configured the same as your pic, as are most of these cutaway chassis vehicles. Your pic is a narrow bus; mine is the wide one. So finding a mirror that doesn't stick out and grab stuff will be challenging.

WOW. Didn't know that was even possible. I don't have to worry about that as I removed the radio and installed a tablet computer in it's place. Removed the antenna as well.

This might be the "wide one"....



An A-pillar or door mount mirror like from a pickup truck is not going to work.

Actually looking at that existing mirror....what if you mounted the mirror with the upper mount on a hinge/pivot above the driver? Then when you get into the brush and bump into something, it would swing back to where the mirror would bottom out where the upper bracket is now?

I shortened my passenger mirror by cutting 2' out and rewelding it together. I now can look through side window to see and it works perfectly!
