I was thinking about cutting a hole in the side of my propane grill and adding a smoker box when these came out... My wife and kids watched me drool over this one for a few months and bought it for me for fathers day... They even purchased the add on smoker box... It's the most versatile grill I've ever used...

Re: The Dirtybus...

Working on getting the upper shelves/cabinets buttoned up...

Storage above the sleeping quarters...

Fridge area is looking good...

Vanity/medicine cabinet area getting some love...

Mood lighting in the back where the magic happens...

Light installed under the shelf above the dinette area...

Little bit more carpet and trim needed...

Temporary shore power... Need to find a little lock door thingy...

Coat rack/key hanger, that's been floating around for a while, finally got a home...

About 30 lbs of venison summer sausage and Mt Dew in the bus fridge... Bring on the Zombies!!!

My stash, shhhh...

Luckily I didn't let out the magic smoke when I hooked everything up... I've never figured out how to put the magic smoke back into things after I let it out...

Slowly getting the sheet metal that hides the wiring installed...

Cut in for bedroom lamp...

Everything is layered, one piece over the top of another... Its making everything nice and solid, very snug fit... I can still take it all apart to get back into something if need be...

More sheet metal work...

It'll look really good after the square tube is cleaned up and painted hammerite black...

Re: The Dirtybus...

Wall fishin'... I use to spend hours everyday doing this in customers homes...

No pooping in the dark for this guy... I could even enjoy a magazine while camping...

Trimming out some of the diamond plate...

Trimmed the diamond plate behind the stove... Gonna trim the cabinet doors the same way...

Working on the sheet metal that covers the wiring loom running thru the upper galley cabinet...

Working on the furnace cabinet...

Now it's time for some panels to close it up...

Making some progress...

View from the front seat...

View from the rear driver side...

Rear view mirror...

I like the appliances all together like that (w/h, furnace, fridge). Enjoying this build.

Re: The Dirtybus...

The furnace and water heater are toward the back behind the bathroom, the fridge is on the opposite side toward the front... I keep the traditional triangle in the galley with the fridge, stove and sink...

I built houses for a long time and was a general contractor for a number of years, so I have a pretty good understanding of setting up a good work area... Of course when your in the construction trade, you usually end up wearing many different hats... This has helped a lot with building the bus...

So, I took the bus thru emissions yesterday (passed) and decided to stop at Fredys to grab some stuff... No real reason other than the fact that it makes total sense to use the bus for running errands...

I come back out and there's a bee hanging out around the drivers seat... Great...

So, I'm in the Fredys parking lot battling a bee in the bus... The people driving by must think I'm completely insane...

Really like the green color scheme...... After 24 yrs of Army life it kinda grows on ya.......
and if that awning was any bigger you could just park your bus under it.....

Looking good

Re: The Dirtybus...

When you skinned the bus, did you go over or under the rub rail?

Re: The Dirtybus...

I went over... I removed all the rivets along the top of the rub rail and where the skins for the windows were and pre-drilled the new skins, then riveted it back together... The skins were slid up behind and under the drip rail when they went in and were welded to the drip rail from the inside...

I just went through your pictures again for the umteenth time. You have done a masterful job. I plan on using carpet on the walls as you did and I'm wondering how you will finish the 90 degree edges on the corners. Also, is your heater radiant or forced air--I can't tell from the pics?

BTW, who won? -- you or the bee? Jack

No problem... I'm not a wiring kinda guy, but I make do... Got a buddy that looks at wiring and goes all Rain Man on it, he's the same way with computers...

Thanks... I'm still working out all the "finish" work in my head... It changes more than my underwear... As far as the fridge area, it'll be getting angle of some sort... I'm working thru an idea for other areas that will turn out like the furnace cabinet did, I really like the look... It should pop after the metal is painted... The furnace is a sealed forced air unit, it cooks me out of the bus... It has to run a lot for now cause I'm still working with no flooring... I decided to do the floor toward the end like in a house, otherwise it would have been destroyed by now...

And I won that battle, but the war has yet to be determined... I've been going back and forth with the bees for a few months now... They took over a shed in the yard and I have yet to get back in it... It's been very entertaining for the wife and kids...

Re: The Dirtybus...

Keep an eye on them bees. I saw a Blue Bird years ago in East Texas that had been turned into a mobile hive. They managed to get into most of the spaces between the inner & outer skin while it sat for a few months and the old boy wound up having to abandon the project after several tries to clean it up failed. They moved them out with smoke but the bus had gained over a thousand pounds of goo that would have required pretty much ripping off all the skin to correct.

Re: The Dirtybus...

Thanks guys...

I took it for a drive Friday, I'm thinking I need new shocks in the front... Other than that it drives great and gets lots of looks... It's easy to go over the speed limit in it, doesn't seem like I'm going fast at all until I check the Speedo...

Started building a shed/shop that will keep me dry and warm thru the winter... It'll be nice for working on bus related projects, among other things... Hopefully get it done over the next week and get back on the bus stuff...

Re: The Dirtybus...

Little update...

I finally got the bus reclassified as an RV, it's no longer titled as a commercial vehicle... It's now a 1993 International Motor Home... Got plates and tabs now, so no more trip permits... Had to set an appointment with the state patrol to have it inspected... They really liked it and gave me the reclassification to take to the dmv... $320 for all the different fees and inspection...

I installed some mini blinds in it... Also took it to a get together with some close friends last weekend... Had a great time and the bus did awesome... A lot more comfortable than the last time we had it out... Hopefully I'll get back to working on it, but I need to finish up a shed project first...

Unlike some stix-n-staples campers, your cabinets aren't going to break loose from the body structure. Gee, and to think some people are leery of skoolies for safety reasons.

I thought my Winnie's cabinets were well-built...until I dismantled one when doing some interior work.

Re: The Dirtybus...

Yeah, it'll take a lot to undo what I've done...

Hung out in the bus the other night and shortened the mini blinds... Got the goofy little things that hold the bottom of the blinds in place installed... Getting a lot more homey in the bus...

Bought a tub of rv air dry stuff at Wally World for under $10 that seems to be working pretty good... We'll see how long it lasts, but it does seem like it's soaking up moisture...
