Re: The Dirtybus...
I think the last photo is a set of chains designed to be carried in the up position during summer driving and then with the flick of a switch these chains lower in front of the rear wheels and spin as the rear wheels turn to give them better traction in the snow.We carry this system on our ambulances and they work just fine in snow driving.

I've got a 12' one for the other side...
Look at craigslist for cheap bumper pull camp trailers... You can get everything you need out of buying just one... Then scrap the rest and use the frame and axles to build a small utility trailer...
I picked up the 21' that you see in the pic at an RV salvage yard up here for $120 I think... And got the 12' awning for the other side from a neighbor for $25...

Hey dirtygoat,
The valve cover on your int diesel looks more like a dt360 rather than a dt466, have you checked this? If I remember correctly the dt360 has all raised ribs in the valve cover, where th dt466 has alternating raised and recessed ribs. I could be wrong though. The conversion looks great!!

After I read this I researched a bit and found out that it is indeed a DTA360 190hp in the bus...
What's the pros and cons having a dta360 rather than a dt466???
It appears that it is a mechanical fuel injection and it has an aftercooler...
I also found between the rails complete rebuild kits for under $1000... Nothing wrong with mine, but that price seems very reasonable...

Re: The Dirtybus...
You should get 10mpg as opposed to the 8mpg you would expect from the DT466. Less power of course, but I've heard good things about that engine. I thought it seemed odd to have a DT466 in a shorty! You'll be glad you have mechanical injection if you ever have to replace injectors. Much cheaper!

I drove one for a bunch of years bad never had any issues with them. We had those, 9 liters and 466's. I actually liked the 9's.

Re: The Dirtybus...
The problem being that most DT360's will have the AT545 non-lockup automatic transmission, while the DT466 will usually have the stronger MT643, which DOES lock up. The transmission slippage will more than negate any fuel savings of the smaller engine.

Re: The Dirtybus...
I got the diamond plate in the window holes and most of the front bolted back together... Still have to paint the grill and the pieces of diamond plate that will cover the holes up top front and back...
Hopefully I'll be able to get down to do emissions and get the plates for it really soon...

Here's the WOW Trail Fund sticker that will be going up for sale next week... They will be $5, with $4 going to the fund... This fund will be used for trail building projects... I'll post the info when we get the stickers back...

Dirtygoat
There are no downsides to the dta360 (only the transmission), it is a sleeved engine, so an in-frame rebuid is possible as well. Windows look good.

Re: The Dirtybus...
Thanks...
I've been reading up on the DTA360 and I feel that I'll be fine... I would like to find out if I can install a lock up on the converter though... They do it on th400s and th350s all the time...

Re: The Dirtybus...
Would probably be easier to just swap the whole trans for an MT643. The DT360 should use the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the DT466 and the MT643 was used in the same chassis, so the swap should be simple enough.

So tell us about the paint? Anything special? I'm looking to do the same color on my transit liner.

Re: The Dirtybus...
The paint was from a friend... They use it to paint Freightliner Semi's... He had it tinted for me and gave me the catalyst(hardener) for it... I went to a paint shop and picked up the reducer and shot it on with a harbor Freight HVLP gravity feed sprayer... It would have been really expensive if I hadn't gotten it for free...

Re: The Dirtybus...
OK, I've been bouncing around ideas for the bunks...
I've looked at a ton of other builds and then something clicked...
I'm gonna use black pipe and build a frame, basically posts on all four corners and sockets that the bed rails will drop into... I plan on using Army cots in between the bed rails... This should be easy to set up and take down as needed for hauling equipment...
Here's the cot material that I'm looking at...
