UK bus

In order to get a UK registration plate I have had to complete the conversion to a motor home (RV) before the UK government will test it (it would fail as a bus - deposits passengers on wrong side of road!)

I had to go for a 9 hour test yesterday! The end result is that it was tested as if I had built the whole vehicle myself from parts since International is not recognised as a manufacturer - so I get to choose the Gross laden weight which will be 7.5 tonnes, which is largest vehicle I have a driving license for. The good news was that all the faults it failed on are fixable
- Most external Lights too high or wrong colours
- Sharp edges need to be rounded off or have trim added
- Door needs a deadbolt with buzzer
- No VIN stamped on Chassis
- Trim exhaust so it does't extend beyond bumper (fender)

I'll have to take lots of bits off or disable them, have it re-tested and later put them all back on again!

Had the seat recovered....

And managed to get all the utilities like 240v in, gas flies and Hot water shower out together

Will post pics when it is completed....

Looks like you're making progress. Ain't gov'ment officialdom wonderful?

Why do they even care?

I personally want the exhaust to extend out from the bumper/fender, less chance of fumes entering the inside. Did some law maker shin his poor little knee on an exhaust pipe sticking out too far?

Just a personal observation, your seating arrangement looks a bit cramped.

Good effort mate! My wife is from the UK and we would love to be able to get a skoolie over there some day.

Did you ship it from the East Coast? What town in UK did you go to get MOT?

Thanks

Zack

bought front Penn Yan, NY. Shipped from Baltimore. MOT done in Reading. Still going for IVA approval to get UK plates as an M1 motor caravan (a long story of little interest to you Americans!)

The painting on the entrance is from Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool Aid Acid Test (drawn by Milton Glaser) - story of Ken Kasey's LSD fuelled trip across USA in a 39 International called Further......

You drive on the left, correct? Bit of a challenge with the bus?

Driving on the left is fine - we are used to changing which side of the road when we drive on when we cross the Channel to Europe!

I think Neil Cassady was Kesey's driver on Furthur!

Roger that...at least the Grateful Dead lyrics support Cassady as driver:

"Escapin' through the lily fields
I came across an empty space
It trembled and exploded
Left a bus stop in its place
The bus came by and I got on
That's when it all began
There was cowboy Neal
At the wheel
Of a bus to never-ever land"

OOPS wrong guy! Guess I should have pulled out the CD and check the lyrics before posting, memory not so good anymore.
