deceleration alert? thats almost funny that someone would actually buy something like that. yall help a dummy like me understand why a product would be needed to alert you that you were slowing down? is there an opposite ? an alert that tells ya you are speeding up?

The patent says it has three modes amber, green, and red. Green is acceleration.
I think it may have been some slick monorail salesman type who sold some districts on this "safety device". Can't have the kids riding around unsafe!

I think it has something to do with the brake lights. I've seen city buses that semi fore the brake lights when the bus is slowing down.

We have a family friend who drives a bus. She says her company has these on all their vehicles. They're deceleration alerts for people FOLLOWING YOU, not for the driver. Since they're basically bricks with wheels, in some places you can take your foot off the gas and slow down enough that you didn't need the brakes. You can do that in any vehicle, but you can do it a lot more in a bus. This is hard for people with small cars and small minds to anticipate so buses get rear-ended. The deceleration alert triggers the brake lights even if the bus driver doesn't actually step on the brake.

As did I.

It makes sense. I use my engine to slow down in my standard transmission car. People are always flying up on the back of my car because they were watching for brake lights, not the speed of the car ahead of them.
