What to do with handicap lift?

1st hello all!

Been doing a ton of reading here and some awesome conversions, as well as a ton of info.

Now me and the wife are thinking about buying a school bus to convert to a summer time RV. We have decided we would like a 7 window short bus. Or the ones with the handicap lifts as they are just short enough for the wife to drive and have enough room for 2 months of living.

Here is the problem, what to you do with the huge handicap lift?
Are they easy to remove, and if removed can you resell them?

Somebody around here said that disabled veterans' groups really want them. Try Wounded Warriors; if they don't take it I'll bet that they know someone who will.

There are some on here that are building there rear half for toy haulers and I remember someone asking for a lift in the last week or two for a lift to pick up there motorcycle or something so yes between wounded warrior projects(there are a lot of veteran aid programs out there that need assistance) but you can post it in the classifieds on this site also.
I don't think you would have many problems getting rid of it.

Has anyone ever removed one before? Just curious if is as hard as it looks, with hydraulics and the weight.

My lift is 1 window from the front by-fold door so it will effect the living space. I was thinking of maybe making a movable cook center. Sorta indoor / outdoor kitchen. It can also be used as a lift when cook center is moved out of the way.

Removing mine wasn't very hard. I removed the bolts at the front of the lift that would be covered by the lift when it was extended then let the lift down on a flat bed cart so I could move it by myself once it was loose. After that I removed the bolts at the back of the lift and used a pry bar to shove it out the door. I put it on Craig's list for a month or so without so much as a nibble. Eventually it got sent to the scrap yard.

I'm making mine into a foldout bathroom with a popup tent of some sort for privacy. The poopdeck.

I just removed mine, it got to where it would not go back up and i said screw it, need the rear space more then the lift. since mine was already stuck in the down position, I removed the pivot pin bolts and used vise grips to work the pins out, removed the arms and cylinders off the main frame after disconnecting the lines, this took about 2 hours by my self. make sure to disconnect the main power wire first. then tonight I removed the main mounting plate, ( 8 bolts ) I used an electric impact gun from underneath and vise grips holding the top bolts. took about 30 minutes. just beware these things are very very heavy. mine tried to come down on me the first time I opened the door. if it starts to come down, jump out of the way, you will not be able to lift the weight.

I had no problem selling mine. Unbolted it, disconnected the wire from the solenoid and lowered it down to the ground with an engine hoist. Got $400 for it.

What ever you do, do not scrap it.
At least call your local VFW or disabled persons aide society of some kind.

Use it as a shower . Deploy it out the side , set up privy tent, water drains out onto ground. Saves lots of space inside, don't need a dedicated inside shower. I wish my shuttle had one.

I have had mine on Craigslist for six weeks...started at $300 and I'm down to $100 right now with no takers. I live in a large metro area and surprised it's still here.

Put the word out to local Disabled Veterans groups and take a tax write off.

We sold ours for $100 to a vehicle parts/scrapyard type place in New Hampshire and they took it out of the bus for us which was a huge help.

Took them an hour and a half with air tools and was super awkward and heavy to get out. Totally worth having other people at least help get it out even for less money.

Literally tried to give it away to multiple senior centers, handicap transportation and rural transport companies and no one wanted it except for the place we ended up at.
