diesel isn't getting any cheaper, ever.

i hope my next car is at least self driving. i don't care much what fuel it uses, but i am fond of money, so the cheapest fuel has an advantage.

maybe we can get ahead of this trend. some one send money!!! we will develop the electric bus conversion bus!

repower that baby with a huge gen head and 4 electric motors - railroad style!

4wd even, and a house battery to beat all house batterys into wimpers

send money!

With the size of my brake drums I could see brushless motors replace the drums. Full floating axle too bye bye differential.

It makes sense, they're generating the majority of their electricity through renewable and nuclear. I wish we were doing the same, but the vast majority of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels...

As with so many things, Europe is much further along the road (so to speak) of using renewable energy than the USA. For example, Germany, not the sunniest nation on Earth, has more PV power than anywhere else in Europe, and the windy nations on the western edge of Europe are fast developing huge offshore windfarms. Some of those wind turbines are truly colossal, dwarfing even the largest ones here: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-40699979 (These turbines are being built by Statoil, Norway's hugely-profitable oil and gas company. Note the reference to two double-decker buses!) Tidal power is being developed for areas such as the Severn Estuary and Scotland. Iceland gets much of its heating from geothermal resources. All this means that the European nations are already much more environmental and energy-conscious than North America, so a complete British and French ban on all new gasoline and diesel cars after 2040 is not unexpected and is entirely in keeping with their attitudes towards energy use and pollution. Just look what staid and risk-averse Volvo, now Chinese-owned, will soon be doing. I fear that America, especially under this present regime, will fall far behind in developing the needed technologies, and will become marginalized as a global industrial power as Europe and China assume a dominant role in the rapidly-approaching post-petroleum future.

Blue Bird made some battery school buses some years ago, but they were more of an experiment than a serious answer to producing a less-polluting bus. Beaumont CA had some, but they were on eBay after only a few years' use - it's ironic that the large windfarm in the Banning Pass near Palm Springs is not far from Beaumont, and it's nice to imagine the buses being recharged every night by electricity produced from the wind. Maybe that happened, but I suspect not. With El Trumpo now in power, perhaps he'll push for coal-powered trains to keep his buddies happy - oops, been there and done that . . .

dam John! you're genius.

Coal fired buses...... it will bring coal back

did you all see the new electric BB? 2 battery sizes for range.

and the most interesting part is that they are grid tie batteries.

since they spend a long sitting, they can be plugged into the grid as a reserve power source, fewer brown outs. more capacity

I see your in Prince George, I was there a few weeks ago.
Too much of the economy in Canada is based on oil to ban fossil fuels. But who knows, we have a crappy government.

The deadly byproducts of nuclear last longer than recorded human history.

I can see the headline now...

"Trump gets behind coal fired buses. Puts miners back to work as promised."

Germany is as coal hungry as any other nation.
At least the longest we get stuck with one "leader" is 8 years. The Germans have had the same Chancellor for what- like 13 years?

Electric is neat. But I've seen more then one source pointing out the harm from lithium mining to create lithium batteries. So much so that it's debatable whether fossil fuels or lithium mining is worse for the environment. The batteries in most electric and hybrid cars are heavy and expensive(at least the ones with any range). I'll also assume that they have a finite lifetime like the batteries in cell phones and will need to be replaced after several years.

I don't think the US is going to be following this anytime soon, regardless of the president/party in charge. A large part of america is still rural where urban transit and electric vehicles don't really pan out too well.
