solar generators

I'm fixing to move into an off-grid school bus in a rural area of Virginia. It currently has no power. The location of the bus will not be good for solar panels fixed to the bus itself, but I could use a portable solar generator that I would place elsewhere on the property with good southern exposure to charge and then just physically carry the battery back and forth between the bus and the place I set up the panels.

I'm wondering if any of y'all have any experience with portable solar generators and can share any recommendations, precautions, or advice.

what is the distance between the solar panels location and the bus.
what is the wattage of solar you are looking for?
May be you can put them in series to get a higher voltage and then run a 12 awg extension cord to the charge controller and have the charge controller next to the batteries in the bus
