Audio system has started (don't forget Im a tech geek that is obsessed with music)
I just built a 19" rack cabinet to house main components:
Lexicon MC-8 Surround preamp
Media Matrix 8x8
Media Matrix break out 8x8
Digitools MX processor
EPX 2800 sub amp
5qty 12v 4ch car audio amps
16qty 4" phase plug compact drivers
8qty 1" compression bullet horns
All tops are bi-amped (separate amp ch per low / high) Active Processed through Xframe
2 custom built Danley Sound Lab CS-30 compact concert level subwoofers (LAB12 Drivers)
OMG, these crank....

full lounge area theater with 70" LED tv wall mounted with THX, DTS and Dolby digital
front, center, dual sub, Back L, Back R, Side L, Side R speakers all wall / ceiling installed.

all touchscreen controls / volume etc with custom iPad remote
Processor allows a surround mode for movies or a symmetrical 6 speaker stereo for music with zones (bath, kitchen, outside)

That should be sufficient for my entertainment / social needs.

Yeah, that sound system should be ok.

Your bus is going to be nicer than most houses.

Lol - yeah, I'm hoping to make it at least (as nice) as a house as it is my main residence - I like watching movies too!

Prolly put a few inset cup holders on top and some LED under edge lighting eventually. Can't wait for all the little finish work and trims to get done - but all wiring and system components need to be in before I trim out wall bases, stairs etc... That wall it's on also gets pipes for a central vac and air inlet ports. Argh - so much to do!!

Can I second the request for macro shots of the interior? You've given us little tidbits of the build and it makes me super psyched to get the 'grand tour'. Understandable if you're waiting until the build is complete, but in the meantime we're anxious for more!

Not much construction in the last few weeks - I've gotten sidetracked with the sound system install - Been doing wire install, amp racks, soldering and relay control circuits with DMX for the iPad remotes. Was waiting on parts in mail - and need to make a wood supplies run.

Next up will be lounge air handlers and vent runs..

jasong71 - Congrats on the MCI!!! Dive right in

I am looking forward to the sound system the most I think. Get to put all the car audio experience from my college days to use. Pulled the seats and am at a standstill until the weather warms up a bit.

So I got the TV remote modified to use on the home theater controlled iPad system. I have decided to make ALL control systems use DMX. This way both sound volumes, relays for water pumps / vacuum and other items can all be from the same Raspberry Pi running the OSC software.

Im using Touch OSC to make the interface on the wifi tablets.
I have 3 Amazon FireHD6 tablets and 3 iPads that will all have a similar but slightly customized display for each zone.

The zone will have volume, and lighting control for that area - IE: Bathroom has its own volume control and source select and light controls.
Main iPad at driver can control any zone / light in entire bus.

Video below shows the modified TV remote ($12 Amazon replacement) opened up and buttons I want to used jumped to the relay packs that get 12v from the 24ch DMX dimmer set to full off/on.

This is my poor mans way to do a Crestron control system yet doesn't cost $1000+

LED dimmer is $54
Relay boards $12 each
Remote $12 (or get a cheap universal)
Raspberry Pi $30 (runs QLC+)
ArtNet controller $99

Touch control system totals at about $225 not including your touch tablet of choice with Touch OSC app installed. (Fire tablet 6 inch is $49)

With this system there is 1 DMX universe and it can control 512 dimmers or relays just by adding the 24ch devices and relay boards.

I'm assuming the modified remote is serving to control devices that have IR remote control but no wired control capability? I'm a little bit sad you didn't just hook up an IR LED to the raspberry pi and let it send the IR codes directly!

Seriously though that's pretty neat. Like you I'm interested to build some kind of wired network to interface the lighting, sound, mechatronics... So far I've only looked at RV-C (CAN bus for RV), RS-485, and LIN. I'll have to add DMX to the list of candidates now.

I wish I could have just had an IR on the pi, I know people have written software for that, but to unify the systems I needed custom software written as I'm not a programmer to write code. This way I can make my own touch interface and accomplish the control task. plus the Pi is already running lighting control software, so I would need two raspi' if I went that route.

Crestron is way overpriced anyway. You'll get more control how you've decided to do things. Love it.
