4:88 gears will it move?

Just seeing if this bus will roll out decent? I dont know how to calculate this stuff and figured someone on here would have this setup and give a close idea of where it would be. Plan to have 6th gear unlocked and rev limit bumped up a little.

Hoping for the best after the auction playing with emotions. They put the bus up for 2 days then took it down. Now it has lettering and #s of it dont know if this is a legal thing. But it's back up and I am going all in if it seems in working order.

Below is a gearing/tire/speed calculator. Mighty handy for sorting out such things.

Tell me what you have.

Governed RPM of engine.

Type of transmission (assuming MD3060)

Tire size.

Make of bus

Thomas are best known for agreeing to 6th unlock. The others have fewer data-points.

If it's a Thomas ....

Assuming an engine governed speed of 2400 rpm, unlocking 6th would give you around 92 mph, and about 79 mph in 5th at the rev limit.

Thomas are not going to agree to that unless you have an electronic engine that can be governed to a speed limit (say 75 mph).

Even with a 2200 rpm rev limit it's going to be a dicey proposal.

Those numbers are with 22.5 tires.

It is an IC. Has 2400 limit. Will agree to a 68mph limit if it will get them to do it. Computer has to be flashed to remove a few things anyways. So I need to get trans done first if at all possible or find another company that will flash the trans to unlock after. Ohh,and yes 22.5 and electronic.

There are no reliable reports of any independent contractor flashing the TCU of the Allison transmission. It's not a simple thing to do. The new code that Allison supply the dealer is not a simple "throw a switch in the software", it is a re-programming of all of the shift points and clutch timings. It requires proprietary software.

I haven't heard of International agreeing to this change, but contact them and let us know how you get on.

Is it a 1 and done type deal or if you could convince dealership say someone getting a Thomas done be able to flash the same time?

Nope. They thought of that.

The way it is done is that Allison need an authorization letter from the OEM manufacturer.

Once they have that, and if their engineers agree, they get the transmission details from you.

Then they produce a new code and a download link for an authorized tech.

The tech then flashes that code to your TCU.

They may, or may not impose additional conditions.

It's not expensive, but it is time-consuming.

Are you sure it's the DT466 and not the DT530?

Pretty sure 466. They list it as maxxforceDT and the rest of the motors are like MF9 and 13. Dt only listed as 466

Okay ... The MaxxforceDT is not the most popular engine either here or in bus barns the country over.

It's not a question of "if" the emissions controls will give you trouble, but when they will give you trouble.

Same goes for the CAT C7 and ACERT.
