Most older Crowns had power assist added and didn't have a power steering box until well into the '70's.

It would probably easier and less expensive to find a power assist system than to find a power steering box that would fit.

I have driven both and didn't really notice enough difference in road feel and ease of turning to not consider power assist.

power steering

Something I saw or read, recently, leads me to believe that for the most part any crown that had power steering, used a hydraulic ram type assist. I think I was looking through front axle assemblies in truck salvage yards and ran across a front axle assembly with steering gear and it had the ram, hoses, and pump all sitting together on a pallet. Can not recall where I saw that.

A common option for years was hydraulic assist for the steering. It used hydraulic pressure from a pump that would push or pull an assist rod to make the tie rod go back and forth.

Starting in about 1970 or so (my '69 had power assist and my '79 had an ingegrated power steering box.

Either system would work well for you.
