Yea, if...... but I'd have to find it and I don't have any idea where to begin to look for it. Hoping it's not on the tranny itself, I could barely fit my fat ass underneath enough to get the picture of the ID plate, and had to stretch as it was. Ground clearance is literally only a foot or a little more unless I scoot in under the back end where it's a little more but then it's about 8-10 feet forward.... doubt I could get to it from the engine compartment, even if I open the side accesses where the air cleaner (left) and radiator (right) sit.

That of course presupposes my tranny even has a 6th gear in it... until I get a positive ID on the model I won't know.

Don't know, haven't tried there.

EDIT: Bam, What??? Looks like I was right in the assumption I made, if I'm reading it right it IS a 2000 series, probably the 2500. Took a stab and what I thought was the serial number and it came back with that number - 2000. So now I know more than I did. Looks like I can also order documentation for it from there too. Must make note of this for future reference.

Oh and just so you get the reference.... here's a clip of the "bam what" thing.

I have PDFs of specs for most -- maybe all -- "six digit" Allisons. They are all six-speeds, with 5th and 6th being overdrive ratios.

Not sure I could find that web page again, but it was on a factory website.

Maybe I could attach a copy of a PDF to a PM? Or to a regular e-mail, more likely. I'm certainly willing to try.

I may have found it.

Try this for the...

1000 - 2000 series:

http://www.allisontransmission.com/e...00-2000-series

3000 series:

3000 Series

On each of those pages, scroll down a little and you will see three red buttons for the model numbers. Each button opens a PDF.

If you want the 4000 series and the rest of them, hover the mouse on "TRANSMISSIONS" in red near the top of the page. You get a window with all the models series on the right.

Guys; If this works for you, and seems useful, I can start a new thread and ask that it become a Sticky like the AT 545 and MT 643 info.

In addition, Allison divides the market into segments such as Buses, RVs, Vocational uses (delivery trucks, garbage trucks, dump trucks and such), and several more, with each of these divided into sub-categories such as School bus, Transit bus, Highway bus, and so on and so forth, and on and on.

Some of these applications have extra equipment on the transmissions, such as power takeoffs.
But my guess is that the basic transmission cannot vary a great deal. (I've been wrong before. lol )

And those are no doubt sub-divided into battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, and motorized weapons platforms; with each flavor having the power takeoff at a different angle, and each steeper angle reducing the transmission's max torque rating by four -- 4 -- pound/feet, requiring different versions of the two-page spec sheet, to meet DoD Accuracy of Information standards.

Is this an International bus? If so, the local dealer can look up the factory transmission if you give 'em the VIN.

It's a Thomas, but I already know what I needed to know about it.... as was said the PDF from before was the international version but the US and international versions can't vary too too much from one another....

I was unclear: I was speaking of a brand name, not the location the bus started. If it is an International Harvester (or whatever they go by these days) the International Harvester dealer can tell you the original transmission from the VIN. Apologies...

Actually, if you have a Thomas dealer near by, they *should* be able to pull up the build sheet if you give them a call

Just to keep the question alive:

If anyone has info regarding shops that are more flexible regarding opening up 6th gear in the Allison please share it with us here.

Thanks Everyone.

Now I feel dumb.....

Went over to take pictures for my rear hitch thread and I found something that made me feel like a complete fool with regards to trying to ID my transmission.... it was right there on the data plate if I'd just bothered to look. Dummy.

Since we are currently talking about these transmissions here....
I notice there is an Allison MD 3060 for sale near Sacramento, Northern California. A gamble of course, but....

If somebody has a bus with a bad 3060 in it, that's a good buy.

It looks like this one doesn't come with a wiring harness or computer though. So if somebody wants to swap out their 545 or 643 for an OD unit, there's still a lot more money to be spent than just the 750 for that transmission.

one of buses had shifting issues, nothing we could see so off the allison dealer/shop. Diagnosed as bad TCM (aka computer). $640 for computer, $350 for diagnostics/changing computer.

Boss was happy - figured a new/reman trans w/ labor would be $5-6k.

Anybody know how those transmissions actually work? Could a guy build a little panel with switches and shift it manually?

Anything's possible, I suppose.

But I suspect it would be a lot like trying to build a panel of switches with which to plug into your wall and respond to this message.
