anyone know how complex Fuel line replacement Cat 3116

hello everybody I'm going to go see a bus tomorrow, which when being shown yesterday to someone else apparently sprung a diesel leak, the guy said it's the fuel line (although from what i understand it's not a line but a "rack" not sure of the difference) either way the engine is a Caterpillar 3116 its a 1996 blue bird. Was curious if anyone knows how much goes into replacing this and possible costs? Is it something I could do myself or would have to take to a mechanic? All info appreciated thanks!

First I have no personal experience with this engine, but have recently read a several other posts dealing with it. My take-away from them- the common consensus seemed to be that it was trouble-prone and needed a lot of TLC to stay in shape and the parts (Cat) are quite expensive to replace.

If I am not mistaken, you are also on a tight budget with limited mechanical ability?
I would stay away from this Cat in those circumstances.

Definitely stay away from Cat if costs are a problem. Cummins or Navistar T444E (Powerstroke 7.3L) would be your better options for a power plant.

alrighty well we are still going to go see it tomorrow, and we'll really decide then. If $ was not an issue though would this be considered a good long life engine? Thanks for the input!

They last as well as the Cummins and Internationals. Its just that should there be a need for repair that repair will be pricey.

Over the life time of the cat engine, it will cost you 10 times what a Cummins or a DT engine would.
