Bought my bus and the ecm is bad!
Stuck in South Carolina for the weekend.
Btw anyone have a line on an ecm for a 2000 cat 3126?
Mechanic may borrow me an ok one, it'll run but has a check engine light that won't go off. I'd have to send it back. If he can't find one Monday morning

So we made it home with our 2000 Thomas mvp
The mechanic in cow pens south Carolina loaned us an ecm he had replaced because it had a check engine light that never goes off. But it ran fantastic.
Now I have to find a new one and send him this one back
Btw if anyone is in the area tried state truck and trailer treated us really we, super helpful and way less expensive than I thought it would be

Did you get the part number of the ECM? That'd make it a lot easier to help find one!

I put up a picture of the only numbers on it, do I need to find some kind of reference number that is not on the part itself?

Ah it wasn't clear that the photo was the ECM! To save people from typing, the part number is 162-7584-02. Looks like an expensive part even used...

Yeah they seem a bit pricey, I'm trying to go the junkyard route. I even called the bus company near me but they don't have one

There has got to be plenty of these old cats in wrecked or rusted out junk busses. These are not rare I just have to find where they are sitting

Oh btw the trip was over all ok, bus ran like a champ temp oil rpm all in a good place the whole way, I lost a bit of speed on some bigger hills but never fell under 50. I really like the ecm set for a truck in combo with this mt3060 tranny!
She goes and goes I can hit 50-60 at the top of a fairly short on ramp
My seat sucks it, hard. I will either have to talk a friend out of his high dollar chair that's just sitting in a broke down truck, or mount a car seat on my air platform.
I did 700ish miles one day 300 the next. Makes for a sore back in a junk chair
Also she came with a full 100gal tank and I probably would have made it pretty close to home with out refueling. I dropped in $180 to top the tank and I'm home with half a tank. So set up for more power and 6th still locked I'm getting fairly good mileage

bus parts
I use craigslist takes a long time but has always proved fruitful. start with cities closest, and work your way out. Google salvage yards, especially truck salvage yards. You will find folks parting out buses. If you find an engine for sale call them and see if they also have the ecu.....
hope this gives other ideas and ways to find what you want.

Thanks man, I'm working on that now but it seems Wisconsin is not a place that keeps old busses. Maybe they scrap them before they rust completely away.

They rust so fast up here that it's rare to see buses older than 10 years still in active service.
I drive buses for a contractor here in WI and the oldest full size bus on our lot is a 2011.
