Diesel VS Gas

Hello People!

I'm new to this bus world and am beggining my education on this stuff. I've been shopping around and my big question is:

Diesel VS Gas?

Pros & cons? Does anyone have any opinions and reasons for preference?

I'm so excited about this adventure into Skoolieland.

Thanks, Jatzy! I did a search, but wasn't able to find anything on the threads. I'm brand spankin new, and don't want to clutter things up so thanks for your help! I'll get this website figured out in no time, I hope.

My opinion - gas-burners are fine for smaller "cutaway" style buses - the typical GM and Ford van-style front-ends. Anything larger and diesel is the way to go, both in terms of power, and fuel economy.

My first bus was free, but it was a Thomas with a Ford gas engine and allison 545. It was a total dog and drank gasoline fast.
I was careful this time around since actual money was being spent. Diesel and a decent tranny are the way to go.

my first was a 454 and an AT545.. I made that 454 into a Hotrod.. that bus was FAST!
esp since it was only a 5 row

370 gas + 40 feet of bus = slow and inefficient.

My old gas class A was 1/2 the wt. and got half the MPG.

454 + holley 4 bbl, + cam + heads + intake + dual exhaust === One FAST and LOUD bus...

im really surprisde i never trashed the 545... I had no idea back then the 545 was only designed for like 225 HP... I know that motor was well north of 350..
