Depends on the camshaft and compression ratio in both of them. Also the intake would be a deciding factor as well. If they are both similar builds, then I'd go for the 454 for the sheer fact of more cubic inches. Both should work relatively easy though.

PS Get your firesuit on, because you'll probably be flamed about having a gas engine and that the only swap that should be considered is a cummins and md3060 yada yada yada.

Buy both-sell the 427 to a drag racer-install the 454.

I would look at diesel or maybe an 8.1 gas (468ci) and a stand alone computer, the Tahoes/yukons etc with it get very good mileage for a big engine and they are getting 250K plus out of them

Nice snide comment.

Gas engines are not worth owning when you have 4 spare cummins engines sitting around.

I have no interest in big block gas sucking engines.

A 5.9 Cummins is quicker, cheaper, and more simple to swap than any V8 gas engine.

If I really had to use a gas engine, it would be a LS6 chevy. Cheap, raw, gasoline powered muscle.

Well nat, I try sometimes.

So you mean to tell me, that you could have his old engine out, and a cummins swapped in and complete, faster then you could swap another gas engine in it's place?

I know I couldn't, you'd be looking at a few days minimum for me, and that's if I had a purely mechanical cummins and it's transmission(hens teeth where I'm from) sitting there.

Swapping a 366 for a 454 is something that most backyard mechanics with hand tools and a cherry picker could pull off, and if he's not taking it cross country, does he really need a diesel?

Hey man, if he has the engine sitting there waiting, and his time is worth nothing, go for it.

But yes your right. Most people have a hard time getting a engine swap done if it's not a direct bolt in.

I don't have that issue. That's why when my V10 died in my 2004 ford one ton, I replaced it with a 5.9 Cummins out of a 89 dodge. Great truck after, used 1/4 of the fuel it did before with the V10.
