Foam fill tires?

My wife and I have just bought our first bus. It's a 1980 Bluebird with very low original miles on a Chevy 454 engine. It was pretty well maintained by the previous owner who used it as a mobile flea market store.

The one main issue I have at the moment is, even though I moved it 160+ miles to storage, there is some dry rotted on the sidewalls. It wasn't enough to make me not attempt the trip, but I definitely want to deal with it soon.

I'll put pictures of the tires up soon.

The tread is still very very good, and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea and/or cost effective to have them foam filled bya professional instead of changing them. Anyone have any experience with this?

Foam fill is not for highway use tires. It is for construction and ag equipment tires. It also makes the tire very hard and the ride very rough.

Okay. I appreciate it, y'all. I'm gonna look into getting them changed probably. Thanks!

While the tread may look good, check the date codes and see when the tire was made. It could so old and brittle it's about to come apart.

Seven years use is the industry standard for replacement. Ten years is an almost guaranteed catastrophic tire failure. Check the DOT date of manufacture stamped in the tire sidewall.
