Gear Vendors add on overdrive?

With all the threads here about how to improve highway speed I wonder if anyone has fitted a Gear Vendors add on Over Drive unit to their bus?

Nevermind, apparently they don't make anything for medium duty drive trains.

Would not be worth the cost or trouble any way.

Just get the right gears in the rear, done.

Gears can be had from junk yards. Gear venders stuff starts in the thousands.

If you don't already have a bus I would recommend just shopping around for one that has good highway gearing already. A unit with an MD3060 trans would be ideal, cause it is 6 speeds rather than 4 or 5 and has 2 overdrive gears. Of course the rear gear ratio comes into play too.

If you already have a bus it would be cheaper / more straightforward to swap the rear gears than to do any add on trans modification.

The MD3060 has 6 gears but my understanding is that only 5 are used in a school bus application.

We have a crap load of buses at the shop, so I started looking.

My 96 MD3060 only go's to 5th gear.

Same bus but a 2000 has the 6th gear.

Both are 8.3 Cummins, MD3060 combo's. The 2000 is a electronic version of the 8.3, still at 250hp.

I think it's all in how they were ordered when new.
